This is a story about the end of my favorite office couple. I do not own the office or its locations or characters.
"Alright, I'll see you later."
She watched her friend wave goodbye and walk into a sea of people, until the back of her head was no longer recognizable. She sighed. It was nearly 2 o' clock. She thought he would have been done by now. She looked around. It was a very pretty street she was on. It was right only a few blocks from Corporate, so he could walk to her when he was done. Her interview went well, and hopefully her mistakes would be overshadowed by a disgruntled employee bursting into the room yelling about her breasts.
She hoped his interview went just as well. He was just a qualified for the job as she was. She enjoyed his company so much, his smile, and the sounds he would make when something funny or ironic happened. She loved him. She thought to herself that she would follow him wherever he went, including New York.
The she saw him coming. She saw his unusually fancy suit. She saw his new haircut. She saw everything, but his face was weird and said as something metallic radiated from his pocket.
She walked over to the big fountain only a few feet away. It was beautiful structure. It looking ancient, but released water in a 21st century efficiency. She took a seat on the marble-like fountain step, safe from the constant srapy of water.
"Hey you," she said in her happiest most cheerful voice. "How'd it go".
He look up from his shoes, but not into her eyes. "What? Oh, yeah it was fine."
"Awesome," she replied with a curious smile. "What happened?"
"I, uh, withdrew from consideration", he said in a lifeless monotone voice.
"What?!" she asked, astonished by what she had heard. "Why?"
There was a long pause. She tried to look into his eyes, but he only would look away.
"I..." he started. "I don't think I'm ready to leave."
"You can't spend your whole life in Scranton. I can't spend my whole life waiting for you to move on."
"It's over." he said briefly.
"What?!" she shouted, tears beginning to well up in her eyes. "What do you mean its over?"
"It's over. I'm sorry." he repeated emotionlessly, uncaringly, nothing like himself.
"Is it her?" she asked desperately, now on the verge of hysterics.
He didn't say anything. He turned around. He was frigid and he sunk his hand into his packed and clamped his fist onto the shiny object within.
"Yeah". He replied coldly.
"Please don't do this to me". She begged. "I love you. I left my hometown for you, I've given you everything I can give."
"I don't... I can't love you." He took his hands out of his pockets. "I'm sorry." He started to walk away.
She was speechless. She watched him evaporate into the same sea of people and heads until he and his haircut were gone. She turned. She looked at the fountain. It was beautiful.
