What Happened on the Roof
Elodin and Kvothe are on the Archive roof during the storm. What happened exactly? Well, here you go!
"What?" I squawked.
Elodin just looked at me. "Do you want to be a Namer?"
"Yes but-"
"But nothing. Roof. Now. I have a key."
I bit my tongue to keep control of it and pushed open the door to the archives. If Master Lorren caught me, I could kiss my thumbs goodbye.
The two of us reached a small door in the back wall and Elodin pulled a small, brass key from his pocket. He slid it into the lock, turned it right, then left, and then right again. The lock clicked and Elodin pushed the door open.
The two of us glanced around then dashed up the narrow set of stairs. When he reached the top, Elodin unlocked the second door and stuck the key in his pocket. Then we stepped out onto the roof of the archives.
The sky was a dark, purple gray. Leaves blew around on the roof, swirling and tumbling off the edge. A raindrop landed on my hand. It was all the warning we got before the sky split open.
Wind roared through the trees, thunder boomed in the sky, and rain pounded on the roof as if it were trying to grind it down to pebbles.
Elodin tossed his head back and laughed. "Isn't it glorious?" he yelled.
I swiped water out of my eyes. "We're going to get blown off the roof!"
He turned toward me and made a disproving face. "You'll never fell the storm that way. Right, okay, I know what we can do."
He pulled his robe over his head then put a foot on it to keep it on the tiles. His shirt followed it.
"What are you doing?" I asked warily.
"Strip, now. Hang onto your clothes."
I hesitated, and then started unbuttoning my shirt. When we were both naked, Elodin collected our clothes, wrapped them in an oil cloth, then picked up a few bricks and placed one on each corner.
"There." he looked at me. "Get up! Move around, dance for Tehlu's sake!"
I got up and started running around the roof with Elodin in pursuit. I was so distracted by the water and lightning that I didn't notice it when the wind picked up our clothes and carried them off.
Elodin stopped. "God's burned beard!" he trailed off into muttered curses, mostly in Ademic.
"We lost the key…"
He glared at me. "Yes. We did, Re'lar Kvothe. And my clothes. We'll be waiting for a while."
~OoOoO~
Bang!
The door shook.
Bang!
Bang!
The door burst open and three scrives, followed by Master Lorren, rushed up onto the roof then stopped dead.
"Elodin, get off the roof. Take Re'lar Kvothe with you. Re'lar Kvothe-"
Elodin cut him off. "I brought him up here. You can't suspend him from the Archives."
Lorren nodded and handed Elodin a robe. "Go on then."
The two of us left the Archives, followed by the curious eyes of the scrivs.
The instant we were outside, Elodin turned and pressed his hands together in front of his sternum. "So. Tell me, what did you feel?"
I paused in the act of picking up my pants. "Excuse me?"
