And if you ran away,
I'd still wave goodbye
Watching you shine bright
A knock.
He stands up straight, turning away from the bag he's packing and towards the door.
"Hey."
"Hey back."
Silence.
He sits down, thick body almost collapsing onto the bench. So tired.
"…Can I come in?"
God yes please come in don't ever leave
"Sure."
He enters. Almost pours himself onto the bench, long body graceful and smooth.
So beautiful.
"So…?"
"So this is it, I think."
A nod.
"I thought you'd say that."
"It's just…it's too hard." He turns. Stares. Grey eyes studying his profile. "We can't keep this up."
"I know. I just…" A silent tear. "I don't want this."
"Neither do I. But you know-"
He shakes his head. "No. I know. You're right."
A pause.
He reaches out, wiping a stray tear from shining blue eyes.
Then,
"You know what you are for me."
He nods. Smiles.
"Go. You'll be late."
One hand cups his cheek, bringing him close for a kiss, full and soft and bittersweet.
A barely there whisper. "I love you."
Another nod. Fingers ghost over new scruff, the feeling foreign but desirable.
"I know. Me too."
The space next to him is suddenly empty. He looks up, watching the strong back move away.
"Be safe."
Back becomes chest. "Always. You too."
Chest becomes empty space.
Silence.
Silence.
Then so much sound.
