Shall I compare thee to a moonless night?
Cruelly you have left me,
As the waxing and waning leads to nothingness,
And the stars shine black.
Sometimes when the eye of night is winking,
I think you will return to me,
As the moon returns to the sky.
Only then do I find my night forever moonless,
Forever heartless, forever empty.
But my everlasting hope shall not grow fainter,
Nor shall the pain of unfulfilled hope ever lessen.
New as the dark moon is the sorrow,
Felt each and every loveless day,
Each and every interminable night,
As dusk falls and twilight twinkles,
As I scan the skies for my moon,
Upon night's first star I wish for your return.
