Heart and Soul
It was the night before the final battle. Sesshoumaru had joined forces with InuYasha and his friends, Rin and Shippo had been left in Kiada's care, and the final preparations were under way. But it had become very late and everyone was very tired. Miroku and Sango where fast asleep in one of the sleeping bags Kagome had brought from her world, and Sesshoumaru was up a tree using his tail as a cushion to sleep on. Kagome too, was just about to doze off into dreamland in front of the slowly dying campfire when InuYasha approached her unexpectedly.
"Kagome," he said, "I need to talk to you."
"Huh? Oh, all right."
As they left the camp, InuYasha took her hand and led her through the forest, they where both silent during this trek. As they entered a clearing InuYasha finally spoke.
"This is where we first met." He said pulling her in front of him, they were standing in front of the God Tree, he wrapped his arms around her waist, "Different times, huh?"
"Yeah, if I remember correctly, you were trying to kill me." She said with a soft smile. InuYasha's ears drooped sadly.
"This is also where you got your beads." Kagome said laughing quietly to herself. InuYasha gave a low growl.
"I really hate these things."
"I know," Kagome said reaching up and scratching one of his ears, "I'll take them off one of these days."
He bent down and nuzzled her neck.
"Do you remember the time you got stuck up there and wouldn't let anyone help you down? Even when it started to rain?"
"And you put your robe of the fire rat over my head and sat with me all night."
"And, if I remember correctly, I was the one who ended up with a cold."
At this Kagome started laughing.
"That's right! God, you were miserable. But it was so cute."
"Gee, I'm happy I amused you."
Kagome walked out of his embrace and up to the tree. She traced the indention in the wood where the arrow had been almost two years ago. She bit her lip holding back unwanted tears.
"What's wrong?" InuYasha asked sitting on one of the larger roots with his back against the tree.
"Huh? Oh, nothing."
"I know you better than that Kagome."
"Kikyou." Kagome said staring down at her feet. InuYasha sighed, and pulled her into his lap.
"Kagome," he took her hand and placed it on his chest, "Can you feel it? My heart?"
Kagome nodded
"I may owe Kikyou my soul," he leaned forward so their foreheads were pressed together and her chocolate eyes stared directly into his amber ones, "But my heart, will always be yours."
"InuYasha."
The hanyou gave her a cocky smile before standing up with her in his arms. He sat her down gently and kissed her forehead.
"Come on, the others will start to worry if we don't get back soon."
As he turned to leave he felt a slight tug on the sleeve of his haori.
"Kagome wha…"
He was cut off when she kissed him shyly. He smiled and kissed her back. When she ended the kiss he ran the side of his hand down her cheek.
"Come on, or they really will start to worry about us." With that they both turned and he led her back to camp, hand in hand.
