Chapter 4- Sol 26
Well, nothing left to do. I'm about to go out and find the satellite dish. I found a powerful metal detector here in the Hab, so if it even picks up a hint within 2 miles I should find it. And no, it won't detect the metal in the Hab, the special lead lining will prevent that. Off I go, I guess.
Sol 26-2
Found it! Geez, tricky little bastard, but I got it. I walked two miles west of the Hab, seeing how the wind was blowing that direction during the storm. Not a peep. So I walked back and headed south. Nothing. North. Nothing. Finally I went east and I got a peep after a mile and a half of walking. Two miles later and bingo. Problem then was bringing ti back. This thing is huge! Guess it has to be though, if it can communicate to Earth.
If you're wondering, yes I do have rovers here on Mars. Two of them actually. I didn't use them because I wanted to save their gas (there are no gas stations on Mars, duh). While each does have an emergency 50 gallon supply, I didn't want to waste it on finding the stupid dish. I figured I could do that part on my own. After digging it out of the ground I called in the GPS by remote. Kinda cool actually, felt like I had my own Batmobile. The rover I called also had all the supplies I would need to tie it down and bring it back.
So, here I am, but after a long day I have no temptation to set this thing up yet. I'll give it a quick scrub tomorrow, check if any parts were severely damaged. Thankfully NASA sent in all the hardware and software pieces we might've needed in case something went wrong. I need to look around for a manual, but I did get some basic training before leaving Earth on the tech we would be using and how to fix it. For now, I need a full meal and a nap.
