Just a simple oneshot, sorta written to try to get a friend to understand why mortal enemies like Lulu and Suzaku made such a great pairing. ANYWAYS. It was fun to write. I like doing little 'snapshots' of character relationships. I did tear up a bit at the end, though.

Every word Lelouch said burned like acid on the way out.
Every kiss they shared stoked the volatile flames of longing, regret, and hate inside him just a little higher.
Every minute the spent together made the idea of what was to come just a little bit worse.
Lelouch knew he was asking the impossible of Suzaku. Yet he also knew Suzaku would make it possible – if not for him, then for those that had been lost (their names stabbed at his hear – Euphy, Shirly, Rolo) and those that still needed protecting (they also tore at his soul – Kallen, Suzaku himself, and Nunnally, precious Nunnally...).
Ah, Suzaku. Their relationship was the most twisted he had ever known. Mortal enemies, best friends, lovers. Every motion destroyed a part of one and built upon another.
If anyone knew, they'd laugh. How, they'd wonder, could two people on opposite sides of such a war love each other? How could one take 'Know thine enemy' quite so far?
It was dark and it was twisted.
They both craved every minute of it.
As dawn filtered in, Suzaku withdrew into himself. Lelouch remained passive – resigned, almost, to his fate. Suzaku couldn't help but wonder if there might be something bigger going on, but he shook the thought from his head quickly. No one could escape from death, he thought. Not even Lelouch.
Could they?

Nothing had been worse than this.
Nothing could possibly be worse than showing a sword into your... your everything's stomach and then yanking it out. As if with vehemence. As if with hate. The tears flowed freely within the obscurity of his – no, Zero's – mask. He was no longer he. He was Zero. He had given up his name to a symbol.
But really, he was okay with that.
After all, Lelouch had died for it. His Lelouch, his world, was now gone. So he would become the symbol, and live for Lelouch. But when the time came that even the Geass couldn't save him, he would happily join Lelouch.
The tears refused to stop, though. Only by sheer force of will did it not show when he spoke to the world. Only by sheer force of will did he not collapse right then and there and sob.
For now, he was Zero.
Fin.
