How Ian Met Erin
I walked into the office to use the phone. There was a boy using it at the moment. My friend Jodi worked in the office this hour, running passes, so she came up to the counter to talk to me while I waited for the phone.
I turned to the boy. "You're adopted. No one loves you. They don't want to talk to you. Just hang up." I said jokingly. He finished his call and headed for the door.
He stopped at the door and said "You know, it's not nice to say that to a foster kid." He chuckled darkly and walked out. I felt so bad.
"Nice" Jodi said with a small laugh.
"What, I didn't know." I defended.
I made my call and left the office. I cut through the mall to get back to study hall. There was a class outside enjoying the nice day, and there was the boy from the office, sitting alone at one of the tables. I took a deep breath and walked up to him. He looked up.
"Hey. I just wanted to say I'm so sorry for what I said in the office. I had no idea." I said.
He gave me a small smile. "No prob. I was just giving you a hard time. I'm Ian McKinley."
"Erin Ulmer." I looked him over. He was wearing a black Tripp jacket over a red graphic tee and worn jeans. He gave me a funny look and I realize I had been staring. "Well I guess I should go to class. See you around."
"See ya." he said as I walked away.
Mall – slang for the quart yard in my school.
The whole office situation actually happened to my friend. I was in the office when she did it...but everything after the office is pure fiction from my head
It's really short. I don't know if I will continue this but for now it is a oneshot...if you see potential and want to use it let me know and I'll be glad to share. It takes place during their Freshman year.
Thanks Amanda for the inspiration...even though you didn't mean too.
