You know how one little question can determine your life or death? Well, that question came from my wife one night while watching the evening news on the couch of our apartment. We'd been married for about four months at that point.
"Syaoran?" Sakura said, yawning.
"Yes?"
"What would you do if you'd have never met me?"
My heart stopped. How do you even begin to answer that? I stole a glance down to see her looking back up at me with the widest, most innocent eyes you could imagine. I groped for something to say. I chuckled to buy myself a little time.
"I don't know. I could take a couple guesses, though." I answered. Sakura's eyes widened a little more with curiosity, so I continued my thought, gaining an idea.
"I'd do a lot more off-shore fishing; probably eat more drive-through chicken." Sakura raised her eyebrow. "Take a few stokes off my golf game." She actually snorted there. "If I'd never heard your name, I'd still be driving that old, green 'Nova. I probably never would have heard of yoga." I thought for another minute, just for show. "Be a better football fan, but if I was a single man, alone and out there on the loose, I'd be looking for a woman like you."
I had Sakura's full attention at that point. She had her brows bunched together in concentration, and just looked too darn adorable. She wasn't looking at me anymore—she was looking up.
"Where have I heard that…" she trailed off, thinking for a moment. I smiled when she hummed a few bars, finally catching on. She was always a little slower when she was tired. She jerked her head back up to look at me. "You're singing to me!"
I sang the rest.
"Well, I could tell that got her attention, so I said, 'Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I wouldn't trade a single day, for a hundred years the other way.' She just smiled and rolled her eyes." Which Sakura did, right on cue. She's a musician herself, after all.
'Cause she's heard all of my lines
I said, "C'mon on girl, seriously
"If I hadn't been so lucky
"I'd be shootin' pool in my bachelor pad
"Playin' bass in my cover band
"Restockin' up cold Bud Light
"For poker every Tuesday night, yeah
"I'd have a dirtbike in the she'd
"And not one throw pillow on the bed
"I'd keep cash in a coffee can
"But if I was a single man
"Alone and out there on the loose
"I'd be looking for a woman like you"
She knows what a mess I'd be if I didn't have her here
But to be sure, I whispered in her ear
"You know I get sick deep-sea fishin'
"And you make the best fried chicken
"I got a hopeless golf game
"I love the sound of your name
"I might miss that old green 'Nova
"But I love watchin' you do yoga
"I'd take a gold band on my hand
"Over bein' a single man
"'Cause honestly, I don't know what I'd do
"If I'd never met a woman like you"
When I finished singing the last note, I looked down to see Sakura smiling from ear to ear, tears in the corners of her eyes. I got frantic then.
"I didn't mean to make you cry!" I exclaimed, but she raised her hand to stop me.
"I'm crying for joy, my love. You made me very happy. I never get to hear you sing." Her smile got wider. She then cupped both sides of my face in her small hands and kissed me. I could feel my own grin forming.
I needed to sing to her more often.
Yay for my second Cardcaptor Sakura fanfiction! Just so you guys know, I only rated this T for now because I have no idea what songs I will choose later on.
Anywho, I just thought this was something Syaoran would do. Don't judge. :)
