A Kind Man
When Martin was carrying Kim out of the warehouse, she asked him why he was being so kind. He was a kind man. For the second time since they met, she had held a gun to him, but this time, she also pointed her gun at Danny, he had no other recourse but to shoot her. Martin was a kind soul, but he was also an FBI agent. He couldn't let go of the fact that the woman that he had been sleeping with had a gun with a filed off serial number. Something didn't feel right and he had to pursue it. He was glad that he did, it was his sworn duty, but his heart felt empty. He had fallen in love with her.
It had been some time since he had allowed his heart to feel something ... anything, for a women since Samantha and although he felt no ill will towards her, the pain and emptiness still remained. He was happy for Sam. He was even happy for Jack ... the better man won ... so it would seem. It just wasn't meant to be, he knew that deep within, but that didn't keep the pain from reaching in and gripping his heart, leaving it unavailable to others until Kim came along. There was something about her. Something sexy and mysterious, kind and wild. The sort of women that he was attracted to, but normally, would have stayed away from. He was lonely and vulnerable. Danny and Elena were happy. Sam and Jack. Viv had been happily married for years and he wasn't getting any younger. What wasn't to like … she was hot.
Director Fitzgerald called his son on a regular basis it seemed … "You could be the head of your own team, Martin … I can have you transferred to Washington, Martin. Then his mother would get on the phone … Have you found yourself a nice girl, Martin? You would be a wonderful father, Martin. He would listen to his mother's words more so than his father's. His career as an FBI agent meant everything to him, but on his own terms. If he were to get his own team or transferred to "where the action is," and there was plenty of that in New York … he wanted to do that because he was Martin Fitzgerald, not because he was Director Fitzgerald's son.
This was one time when he had, in effect, listened to both. His training as an FBI agent kicked in and he investigated the woman that he fell in love with. When Agent John Curtis approached him with information on the Sig Sauer, he had to look beyond his feelings. Martin knew then, that he was in fact Victor Fitzgerald's son … destined to be alone, suspicious of all women and on the fast track up the ranks in the department. What else did he have now?
By the time the ambulance came, Kim had confessed to him that she could have changed for him. He could have been the one man that set her on the right path. She went on about a bad childhood and no one ever loved her like he had. She was used and abused and if they only had more time. The money was going to set her up far away … she was going to send for him. He rolled his eyes … she really didn't know him at all. Sex was a tool for her, but not for him. He was a kind man, not a stupid man. He played by the rules, for the most part and would never have given up his life to become a fugitive for great sex and money.
Martin Fitzgerald would close up his heart again. His mother would try … she would ask … Martin, have you found a nice girl? His father, the Director would try … I can give you your own unit, son. This time, he may listen to his father. He loved his friends, his partners at Missing Persons, but they were all so happy and fulfilled in there lives … he was not. Misery loves company and Martin was miserable. It was too bad, because Martin was a kind man.
Thank you for reading ... happy week-end:)
