Discovery

It happened by accident.

It really did. It wasn't as though it was something that I ever thought I would happen upon. I had no idea that being restless at night would lead to such a discovery. Something I didn't even know was possible!

It really was an accident.

I know that by his reaction. He had stayed perfectly still. HIM! Not even a single muscle twitched and his jaw was slack. He seemed to be the perfect picture of shock with his blue eyes wide, and his brows reaching to up to his hairline. His shoulders were tense and squared as though he were about to run, but just couldn't get the signal to his feet.

He panicked.

He began to run in circles, trying to find something to throw over his head. Just something to cover up what he did not intend to show to anyone. He finally grabbed his fallen cap from the ground, not even bothering to get the bits of grass off of it before slamming it onto his head. He pulled it too far down, completely covering two thirds of his head with the cap and held it there.

I didn't know what to say.

Before I could think of anything to really say, or to even process what I saw only seconds ago, my hand moved up to my own ears. I felt the rounded part of my own ears while staring at him. Yes, what I saw was not something I had.

It wasn't normal.

He seemed to know exactly what I was thinking. He shifted from one foot to the other, all the while keeping a firm grip on his hat as though I would snatch it away from him. He looked rather humorous like that. Holding his cap; that had grass and twigs sticking out of it, firmly to his head while he bounced on the balls of his feet. He looked like a little kid that was caught doing something he knew he shouldn't have.

I smiled.

I couldn't hold back the laughter that rose in my throat. I knew it was hurting his feelings but I couldn't stop. There was nothing I could do. I grabbed my sides and doubled over with body-shaking laughter. Breathing became very difficult for me and my lungs started to hurt. I never laughed so hard. It felt great to let it all out. To finally be overcome with such mirth.

He looked like he was about to cry.

The laughter started to die quickly in my throat when I saw his expression. He was nibbling at his bottom lip and his eyes darted around. I could see the shine. He was holding back tears. He was about to cry because I couldn't control my laughter. He thought I was making fun of him. That I thought he was a freak or something like that. He was hurting and I had no idea how to make it better.

I felt rotten.

I straightened up and turned around. Once I had my back to him, it became easier for me. I no longer had that sad face staring at me with innocent eyes. It was easier. I knew I couldn't use thing knowledge against him. Something like that hit too close to home for me. Being teased for something you couldn't help. I couldn't do that.

So, I made it better.

"Just because you have those, don't think I will stop trying to get you to leave."

I almost jumped when I felt two arms circle me from behind. I felt his cheek against my back and felt the relief wash over him like it did me.

"Don't tell… please," he begged.

I turned, as best as I could in his vice grip, and stared down at him.

"Tell what?" I asked, raising a hand and pulling his cap off. Two, pointed ears came out. "I don't see anything to tell."

He smiled in a way that his eyes lit up. The kind you only get to see once in your life.

And somehow, being restless tonight, made me happy.

END!

OK, now it's time for the reviews! Please, give me some critic about the style of the writing. How is it? Do you like it? I need to know these things. I'm thinking of doing a series of shorts about Robbie and Sportacus, sharing this secret. What do you think?
