Minder story.
"Come on Terry. I've got a nice little job for you" Arthur Shouted through Terry's front door. "You are going to have to get a move on though. You've gotta be there at nine." The door burst open. "Do wot?" exclaimed Terry. "What bleedin' time is it now?"
"Oh it's gotta be all of half 8" Arthur said tentatively.
"What? Now Come on Arthur. That only gives me 'alf an hour."
"Yes Terry I know but £50sovs in your 'and"
"Alright, alright. What do I have to do?"
"You have to go Des's garage and pick up a white transit"
"Yeah and?"
"Take it to this address I've got 'ere and then my associate will give you an envelope with £100 in it." Terry sighed. He could already see the trouble this could potentially cause.
"Arthur…Is this kosher"
"Terry, would I touch anything bent"
"Nah…Not without gloves"
"Go on" Arthur ushered.
"Ok, ok I'm going" Terry said disgruntled
"Good. I'll See you in the Winchester about 3"
"Yes ok Arthur. Can you leave me to get dressed now?"
Half an hour later, Terry arrived at Des's Garage. "Desmond…You 'ere?"
Des appeared from under the white transit. "You here for Arthur's van Terry"
"Yeah that's right. It is running isn't it?
"Sure Terry, Sure" Des handed over the keys. Terry took them and then stared at Des's still out stretched hand.
"Yes Desmond. What do you want?"
The £25 that Arthur promised me for use of the garage"
"Yeah that figures dunnit" Terry made a mental note to talk to Arthur about this.
"Here you are." With that Terry got in the car and drove off.
Arthur walked into the Winchester and sat down at the bar. "Give us a large VAT Dave"
"Right Arthur" As Dave got Arthur vodka and tonic the phone rang.
"Hello…Yeah he's here" Dave passed the phone over to Arthur.
"Phone for you Arthur. It's Terry."
"Hello Terence. What is it?
Terry sounded exasperated "Your associate hasn't shown. Now I've been 'ere for 'alf an hour. What do you want me to do?"
"'Ang about a bit longer Terry. I'll come and get you in the car"
"Yeah ok mate, don't…" Terry scowled at the receiver as the phone went dead. "Don't take too long Arthur" Terry muttered bitterly into the receiver.
Terry kicked at the fence. The fence of the address Arthur had given him. The address that consisted of a derelict building site. Bloody hell, thought Terry. Why do I always end up going along with him? Just as this thought was going through his head a police car came roaring around the corner. Terry looked up to see a scrawny and extremely eager looking DS clamber out of the back followed by a flashy clean cut DI.
"Your van?" The DI asked
"Urm well no, not exactly" Terry said carefully.
"You are Terence McCann? You Work for a Mr Arthur E Daley? "The sergeant looking very eager started to write down every thing that was said.
"With. I work with Mr Arthur E Daley" Terry put extra emphasis on 'with'.
For. With. I don't care son. You're coming down the road"
"Down the…'ang about. What's the charge?"
"Oh I expect we'll think of something. Someone at the nick wants a word with you."
Terry sighed. "Bloody Arthur" he muttered.
Terry walked into the interview room. He groaned. "Hello Mr Chisholm" he said grudgingly.
"Hello Terry. I have to say I am disappointed"
"Disappointed? In what Mr Chisholm?"
"You Terry. I thought you were in the straight and narrow."
"I am. I don't even know what the charge is sir"
Chisholm grinned. "We've had a tip off Terry"
"Well that the only way you'd catch me isn't it?"
"Now don't get sarcastic Terry. I mean with your form we could make anything stick"
"Yeah and don't I just know it"
"Of course you do Terry. That's why it would be in your best interests to tell us what you were doing at that particular spot."
Terry sighed and began to go through everything he knew.
