I got this idea a pretty long while ago, I just didn't upload it until now.
I apologize for any mistakes. I haven't seen NCIS in quite a while so maybe I got some of the facts wrong. I also apologize for any grammatical/spelling mistakes.
Now, done with the apologizing! This is my not-so-deep-analyzing of Ziva David, Mossad-agent and liaison for the NCIS team.
Enjoy!
It had affected Ziva worse than she liked to admit.
Shooting your half-brother wasn't something she was used to, no matter how much she liked to play the tough girl.
She was a tough girl. Shooting Ari just wasn't something she'd been prepared for.
He had been someone she shared her father with, someone who knew what it was like to be a child of his. Someone who had been there to protect her when men assaulted her, even though she was more than capable of protecting herself. But it had been a good feeling, knowing he was there to rescue her if she ever needed help. When she had come to America, her feelings towards him had definitely been positive.
But then she saw how much his shooting affected the NCIS team she was a liaison for. She had never known Kate, but by the way everyone acted it was clear she had been a friend to them all.
To Gibbs, she had been like a daughter – maybe to replace the loss of his own daughter, which Ziva had discovered very early, even before his own team members – something she was quite proud of.
To Tony, Kate had been a female friend who'd stayed permanent, not like the one-night stands he usually had. She had stuck with him and when he had come down with the plague, she had stayed with him, though feigning disinterest and anger. Ziva had heard parts of the story and had filled the gaps herself.
McGee had been happy to find someone who was more obvious than Tony, who always bullied him. He undoubtedly knew Tony did care for him, but it had been much clearer with Kate – and for that, he was thankful.
Kate had been someone to protect for Ducky, someone he wasn't particularly close with but whose company he'd enjoyed. Maybe she had been like a daughter to him – Ziva couldn't tell: Ducky was a bit of a mystery to her. He appeared so gentlemanly and friendly, and he was, but Ziva knew there was much more to him than met the eye.
And Abby had just been happy to have a female co-worker, someone who didn't possess the male ego. Someone she could her feminine side with, someone who understood her if only because they shared the same gender.
Kate had been a special person to them all – and when Ziva saw how they were affected by her death, her feelings towards Ari changed.
He had been responsible for this. He had shot her, even though he wasn't in any direct danger. It had been an act of revenge – that's how Ziva saw it.
What she had done wasn't revenge. It was simply seeing who he really was, though she had always seen him. It just hadn't hit her until they were in that basement.
He would do anything, use anyone to get what he wanted. Sure, he was gentle, not your average murderer, but he was a murderer.
Ziva didn't like to think about the fact that she was a murderer too, and a relentless one. She had never admitted to anyone that sometimes she regretted her early years in the army. It had formed her to the person she was now, and that was a good thing. But she didn't like the amount of lives she had taken. She saw now that living was much more of a punishment than death.
