Disclaimer: Sadly Gundam Wing and it's characters do not belong to me. *cries*
Authors Note: This was written as a literature assignment. So you don't really need
to know anything about Gundam to read it, but it couldn't hurt. Duo is a bit out of
character and Heero is reeaaaaaallly out of character. Oh, and it was based on the quote
"You cannot exchange hands with clenched fists." I wish this was Shounen ai but I don't have
the patience to re-write it. Gomen!
Warning: Death fic

Duo Maxwell searched desperately through the wreckage of the utterly
decimated hanger. "Heero!!!! Come on, pal!!! Answer me!" Silence.
//No. No. No. No. NO! He's gotta be alive. Nothing kills that guy!!! //
They had been given orders to destroy this abandoned hanger.
Apparently a group of terrorists had set base here. However
things had gone terribly wrong. The explosives had gone off too
early. Duo had been outside, keeping the enemy reinforcements
at bay. Heero, however........
The violet eyes of the normally hyper Duo scanned the remains; searching,
hoping for any clue about the location and condition of his fellow soldier. A flash of
green caught his frantic gaze.
Rushing over to the spot Duo found a piece of the green tank top which
Heero always wore. His mind went blank except for the panic which threatened to
overwhelm him. Pushing aside the rubble he searched for what seemed like hours.
Finally he found what he was looking for. Heero's body lay drenched in
blood. Duo's fist clenched in impotent rage, "Heero!!!"
"Don't do that," the voice was weak, barely audible.
"Huh?" Any relief Duo might have experienced was washed out by grief and
anger at the knowledge that Heero Yuy would not be alive much longer.
"Stop clenching you fists like that. I-I did that all my life."
Duo stared, half in disbelief at what The Perfect Soldier was saying and half in
shock. Heero continued, even though the effort was obviously draining what little
energy he had.
"I'm sorry. You tried to be my friend. B-But....." Heero collapsed into a fit
of coughing. Duo was at a loss for what to do, any offer of comfort was normally
denied, but what now?
"I was trained to not be human. I blocked myself off from everything and
everyone. Including you." Duo was forced to lean close in order to hear. "I'm sorry.
But thank you for being so open to me. It meant so much....." Heero's voice trailed
away.
Tears welled up in Duo's eyes, "Hey, that's okay. We're friends anyway,
right?" His smile was genuine but sad.
Heero answered by giving one of his rare smiles. Then he did something he
had never done in his life. He offered Duo his hand in friendship.
As he felt Duo grip his hand, Heero slipped into darkness.
