You know how they say that when you are dying you see a light? That you feel a rush of cold running down your body and then, suddenly, warmth embraces you? You know, how they say every day, today, back then, in the future, even, that when you are experiencing death, your life flashes in front of you?

It's so vivid and it's so long, yet short, that you can't help but reach out to your memories, which disappear. Just like your memories, your life ends. And so with one last, good memory, your soul leaves your body. Your "casket", mind you.

So, what happens next? Nothing. Nothing happens next. Your eyes close. You loose conscience. You don't remember a thing. You aren't born again – or, maybe, perhaps, if you think hard enough, you do go through rebirth. Maybe, just maybe, some sort of God gives you a second chance.

Eli Goldsworthy wanted to believe, that even though he didn't die, he wanted to have his own renaissance. And that's what she told him, right? Spring is a time of renewal?

So, maybe - just maybe, if he thinks hard enough, he'll have a chance once more. And so he closes his eyes, and lets warmth engulf him and then coldness takes over, because he doesn't have her by his side.

And he sees nothing in front of him. He sees nothing, because his life is worth nothing. He is nothing.

So he waits. And he waits for something to happen. For someone to catch a glimpse of him from the hall. Nothing comes his way. He's a vegetable stuck on a bed. So, in the end, he closes his eyes to sleep, and dreams.

He dreams he's a something and that she walks into his hospital room late at night. He dreams that she's saying goodbye to him one last time.

He's dreaming that she speaks to him after trying and failing to kiss him. So she speaks. "Imagine we had five lives," she starts, raising her fingers close to her face. "I could have five jobs, and be born in five different cities. And then… the worst part, I would have fallen in love with the same person. Over, and over again," she muses, smiling at him sleeping on his bed. "Five different times."

He wants to wake up after hearing this, because while sleeping, he wants to cry. He feels his tears working and he shifts on his bed, his dream never faltering, and he sees her vividly when she hugs him.

They are standing in his dream, a soft light surrounding them, and she feels warm. And all of a sudden, it feels too real.

And she whispers, "One day, Clare Edwards and Eli Goldsworthy will meet again. One day, Eli, we'll have another chance," and she steps away, and walks to the door and opens it, mumbling, "Don't forget."

He wakes up feeling warm and he looks around, the room pitch black. He rests his head on the pillow and looks up. "Clare," he mutters, falling asleep.

Eli Goldsworthy feels coldness wash over him and then warmth. Because she was there with him somehow.

And when his eyes shut close, he sees a light. A colorful, light hearted one. And his life suddenly has meaning. He wasn't a nothing; he was a something now. He had his renaissance.

He would always remember.
