I woke up to strong arms pulling me towards the center of the bed I shared with my husband, followed by his lips on my neck. Definitely not the worst way to start my day. I smiled.
"G'morning Perry," I said sleepily, turning a little so I could see his face.
"Morning Newbie." Hard to believe that all these years later that nickname still gave me butterflies.
"How'd you sleep?" I asked, knowing that he had taken a night shift the previous evening so we could spend the day together.
"Not too bad. Happy Thanksgiving." He said to me.
"Happy Thanksgiving," I said, lifting my head up so I could peck his lips. "Tell me what you're thankful for," I said, grasping his hand and rubbing my thumb over the back of his palm.
"I'm thankful that we could both take night shifts surrounding the holiday in order to spend the day together," he told me. "I'm thankful that we have 3 beautiful, happy, healthy kids. I'm thankful to have an intelligent, generous, kind, and incredibly handsome husband to share all of this with." He told me, kissing my forehead as he finished. "Your turn."
"In addition to what you said about our kids, I'm thankful to have a job I love that allows me to see my husband every day. I'm thankful to have great friends to celebrate the holiday with. I'm thankful for this home that I get to come to every day and how full of love it is. I'm thankful that all of those beautiful children you mentioned before call me Daddy even though I'm a step-parent to two of them, and I'm thankful to have a husband who will still indulge me in this corny bullshit he hates after 5 years of marriage because he just loves me that much." I tease.
"Well, Doctor Dorian, it looks like we've got a lot to be thankful for."
