Kai couldn't remember the last time the halls of Sensei Wu's Academy being so long- let alone being so empty. Wasn't it Monday... or Wednesday...? Or was it summer vacation? If it were a holiday, why on earth was he still there?
"Help me!" a voice screamed in the distance.
"Nya!" Kai called out instinctively, although the voice sounded nothing like Nya's.
The dream is over, but in waking I am alone.
Kai ran through the halls of the academy but the end only seemed to go further and further away. Slowly, a figure appeared into view as Kai ran down the halls. It appeared to be feminine in figure- but it looked nothing like his sister. This person seemed to be wearing an orange ninja suit- similar to the ones Kai and the others wore, but cut to fit the feminine figure. In a blink, Kai was right next to the stranger.
There is no name for what I am...
Kai cautiously reached out toward the figure as it stood still in the hallway. He reached, just a few precious inches away, before the figure turned around quickly and stared at him with eyes he should have known. In an instant, the figure disappeared and Kai was once again alone- this time, however, there was a laughter. It was taunting in nature, but it did not diminish his spirit. He began to run again toward the laughter in the same way he had done before.
Kai then found himself in a classroom. At first he was alone, but he heard the laughter again. He turned his head to see the Overlord in his new body -the body of the Golden Master- and Kai grimaced.
"You took Zane from us," Kai said with anger, "But I will not let you have her!"
Kai plunged the Sword of Fire (which had not been in his hand earlier) into the Golden Master's chest but it was not the Golden Master he struck...
The world is not ready for me, yet here I am.
The face of a young girl looked back at Kai with wide, horrified eyes. But yet, there was a sort of acceptance to this look. A ping in Kai's heart made him extract the Sword of Fire quickly as the girl fell to the ground. He knew her, he raised her, she was practically his in all but name...
"You will not exist." Kai said softly, meaning to say something else- something more heartbreaking.
I will not let your instincts go to waste.
. . .
Kai sat up in a cold sweat. With his brain in overdrive from the sudden wakening, he looked around in a small case of amnesia. Well... he was at Sensei Wu's Academy, but he was in the office used for grading the kids' homework. Being mundane and mild mannered bored him. The dream he had was still pretty odd though, he'd tell Nya about it later- maybe she would know how to interpret it. Zane would have been better, Kai realized bitterly, but he was gone.
But the dream had been too lucid- and heaven forbid too many things have happened in his life to not simply shake it away. It bothered him, it scared him.
The kunoichi in orange. The Overlord as the Golden Master. The empty halls of the academy. The Sword of Fire. That girl...
They were all pieces, fragments, of some puzzle that Kai couldn't figure out. As he continued to grade the papers, a voice of a girl he had yet to meet said in his mind;
"Soon."
