Hello, my friends! Just making a note here stating that this is just a little idea that I had swirling around in my head, just a little Spandy story for Valentine's Day. Take note that this has nothing to do with the other story that is currently in progress- Lovesick Sponge, this is a completely different ball of wax from that fic. Anyways, this story will be a lot shorter, probably only two or three chapters. Hope you enjoy. :)
Disclaimer: I do not own SpongeBob SquarePants or any of its characters.
The Valentine Potion
~French Narrator~
"Ah, a beautiful day in Bikini Bottom. The sand, the sea, and all the town's residents enjoying themselves at the Goo Lagoon. What could be better than-Oh look! There is SpongeBob and his girlfriend-I mean, ahem, Squirrel-friend, Sandy Cheeks. Let us see what they are up to."
"Sandy, how much longer till we can play with the frisbee?" asked SpongeBob, following behind the squirrel as she went along over the sand with her metal detector.
"Just a few more minutes, SpongeBob. I'd still like to find that pin that I dropped the other day". She replied.
"Pin? what pin?" he raised an eyebrow. "The pin that my granny gave me when I was just a little thing. I thought I told ya about this earlier, SpongeBob" she said, a hint of irritation in her voice.
"Oh, yeah. The one with the silver acorn printed on it?"
"You bet ya, and I ain't stoppin' at nothin' till I find it" she said with determination. The sponge sighed as he continued to follow her. She was focusing very intensely. She didn't realize that she began to zig-zag all over the place, which SpongeBob had trouble keeping up with.
She became frustrated. "Dadgum it! I just can't seem to find it" she almost gave up, when suddenly the metal detector made a choppy mechanical sound. She abruptly stopped, causing the sponge to slam into the back of her.
"I think I may have found it!" she exclaimed.
"Ohh… that's great, Sandy" he lay on his back on the sand, groaning in pain from slamming into her stiff suit.
She moved the metal detector around a little more, then threw it aside. She got down on one knee and began to dig through the sand. "A little help would be nice, lazy bones," she said, not noticing her friend still laying on the ground in pain.
"Sure thing, Sandy" he tried to brush off the pain and got up. He walked over to where she was and began to dig.
"Aha!-Oh, dagnabbit! It's just a silly ole' penny" she said, holding the penny in her palm.
"Did somebody say penny?!" suddenly Mr. Krabs had appeared out of nowhere.
"Mr. Krabs? What are you doing here?" asked SpongeBob in confusion.
"A crab needs his relaxation time, too, Boy-o," he said, then snatched the penny from her hand and scuttled away.
Sandy sighed and shook her head. "I'm never gonna find my granny's pin" she said sadly. Her spongy friend frowned, as he hated to see people sad, especially her.
"Aw, cheer up, Sandy. It's bound to turn up somewhere" he said, patting her on the shoulder. She managed a small smile. He smiled back warmly at her. She had no idea how her smile always made his heart skip a beat.
They walked along the shore of the Lagoon in silence. Till the sponge spotted an ice cream cart. "Hey, look Sandy! How about some ice cream? I know that always cheers you up" he said, elbowing her.
"Eh, sure, why not?" she smiled. They made their way over to the cart. There happened to be a young couple standing at the cart already, about to tell the man what they wanted.
They stood behind them, overhearing their conversation. "What flavor should we get, Marvin?" asked the female fish with red hair.
"I'll have any flavor you choose, honey-bunch" he replied lovingly.
"Oh, you!" she giggled. They shared a kiss. This made SpongeBob feel very awkward on the inside, but it was also something that he had longed for, for many years. Being all lovey-dovey with a special someone… Sigh, if only…
Sandy, on the other hand, found the situation hard to understand. She just couldn't wrap her head around the idea of love. The romantic, mushy kind of love, anyway. She was a scientist, after all. So, it was sometimes hard for her to understand some of the more emotional and sentimental things in life.
She stuck her tongue out in disgust. She leaned towards her friend, and whispered, "Yuck, ain't they got a house they can do that in?"
SpongeBob chuckled awkwardly, "Ha, I know right? So gross…" he rubbed his arm, a sad look crossing his face over hearing her words.
The couple finally left. "Hello there! What can I get for you two?" asked the male fish.
"One strawberry" SpongeBob began.
"And one chocolate" Sandy finished.
"Aw, but don't you two want to share one like that lovely couple did?" he questioned.
Sandy became a bit irritated. "Heck no. What would we wanna do that for?"
"Well, Valentine's Day is next week, miss. You might want to find someone to share it with, like your little friend there."
SpongeBob blushed deeply at his words. "Oh, w-we're just friend-"
"Are you crazy or somethin'?! Nobody needs all that mush" she said, placing her hands on her hips.
"Hmm, is that why you're so bitter? Because you don't have anyone to cuddle with?" he asked mockingly.
She growled, grabbing him by his apron. "Just hand over the ice cream, bucko. Or you're gettin' a real whoopin'" she threatened.
"Okay, okay! Sheesh," he said. She let go of his apron and he handed them their treats. "That'll be two dollars".
"I've got this one, Sandy," said SpongeBob, sticking his hand in his pocket and pulling out the cash. Sandy began walking away.
He smiled sheepishly at the fish, "Sorry about that, sir. She doesn't take too kindly to romance" he said, handing him the money. "Well, if I were you, I'd run as fast as I could from that… She-Devil" he said.
"Oh, no worries there, sir" he glanced over at her as she sat on the sand, licking the ice cream inside of her suit.
"There's… really nothing to run from…" he sighed and began walking towards her.
The sun was now beginning to set, the sky was colored with beautiful hues of orange and red over the horizon. SpongeBob was walking Sandy back to her Treedome, they held a steady conversation. Or, at least, SpongeBob did… with himself.
"Did you have a good time today, Sandy?" he asked, looking up at her as they walked.
His words fell on deaf ears as she was deep in thought. She held her hand up to her helmet, where her chin would be.
"Sandy? Sandyyy?" he waved his hand in front of her face, snapping her out of her thoughts.
"Oh, sorry SpongeBob. What were you askin'?"
"Did you have a good time today?"
"Oh, yeah sure," she said rather blandly. He pursed his lips to the side at her tone of voice.
"You don't sound so sure," he said. She sighed. "I'm just worried".
"About what?" he asked with great curiosity
"I ordered some specific chemicals from a lab in Texas for this potion I've been workin' on" she replied.
"Ooh, a potion, huh?"
"Yeah. Trouble is, though, I ordered them chemicals over two weeks ago and they haven't shown up yet" she shook her head.
SpongeBob scratched his head. "Hmm, the mail has been rather slow for a while now. Maybe it'll show up tomorrow" he smiled reassuringly at her.
"I sure hope so. I've been really antsy about makin' this potion".
"What's the potion for, anyway?" he asked.
"It's an elixir that will allow me to read people's minds."
"Ooh, so you could see what people are thinking about you behind your back? Dah ha ha!" he laughed. Despite her worries, that little joke managed to get a chuckle out of her. Her laughter then faded, and her happy expression became one of sadness, yet again.
"But I still haven't found granny's pin" she stared at the ground as they approached the Treedome. The sponge frowned at her sad tone, wishing there was something he could do to help her.
"I'm sorry, Sandy. I know how much that pin meant to you…" he looked at her.
She sighed once again, "Well, I can't just sit around and mope about it. It ain't like it's gonna just magically reappear."
They stood in front of her giant home, made of polyurethane.
"Thanks for today, SpongeBob, and for walkin' me home" she smiled at him.
He bowed jokingly, "It was my pleasure, Miss Cheeks. I do hope that the fancy frozen milk in a cone was to your liking" he said with an English accent.
She burst into laughter at his sense of humor. "Oh, SpongeBob, you sure know how to cheer up an ole' grouchy land critter" she said. He smiled up at her.
"Anytime, San-day". They looked at each other for a moment, before they embraced.
After a few moments, they pulled apart. "See ya later, SpongeBob," she said, heading into the Treedome.
"See ya!" he waved goodbye. Little did she know, the sponge felt entirely different than she did after their little moment. He began his walk home, with flushed cheeks and his stomach tied in knots.
A little while later…
"Gary! I'm home!" SpongeBob sang as he entered through the steel door of his pineapple. He looked around, the snail was nowhere in sight.
"Gare? Where are you?" he looked around the living room and underneath all the furniture. He then entered the kitchen. "Gare-Oh, there you are" he smiled. The snail sat near his food bowl, reading a magazine.
"Meow (Thank Neptune your home, I'm famished)"
"Aw, sorry about that, pal. Here ya go" he opened a can of Snail-Po and dumped it into the bowl. He sighed with contentment as he began to wash the pile of dishes in the sink.
"How was your day, Gary?" he asked.
"Meow (A little boring, I might say)"
"Aw, did you miss my company?"
"Meow (Oh, yeah! I missed it so much, so, so very much)" he meowed sarcastically.
"Very funny, Gary" SpongeBob scoffed.
"Meow? (What about your day? Did you do anything special?)"
"Eh, not really" he replied, drying a clean plate with a towel. The snail smirked as he knew his owner was not being truthful.
"Meow (Did you have fun with Sandy?)"
SpongeBob turned around, gasping. "Gary! How did you know- "
"Meow, meow (Come on, Papa-Bob. I could see that sparkly look in your eye as soon as you walked in here)" SpongeBob blushed. "Okay, I was with Sandy, but what does it matter?" he asked.
"Meow (Have you told her yet?)"
"Told her what?"
"Meow (How much you loooveee her?)" he teased. SpongeBob blushed even harder and crossed his arms over his chest. "Stop that, Gary. You know I can't tell her".
"Meow? (Why not? You two have been friends for years, I think it's about time)"
SpongeBob sighed, "I know, but… What if she doesn't feel the same way?"
"Meow? (Why wouldn't she?)"
"Oh, you've gotta be kidding me, Gary. Just look at me! I'm so small and weak… And I've got these big teeth" he frowned.
"Meow (So? She practically has the same teeth. Not only that, it's what's on the inside that counts)"
"That's true, but- "
"Meow, meow, meow (But what? You're kind, you're funny, very caring and loyal. And most of all, you've got a big heart. And I'm sure she sees past the way that you look, she's not shallow. She knows who you are)".
SpongeBob blinked back a few tears. "That's… very sweet of you, Gare" he sniffed and pulled himself together. He let out a sigh. "But… even with all of that, she just couldn't feel the same way. Just today she was disgusted at the sight of this couple being all lovey-dovey, she doesn't really care for that kind of thing".
"Meow! (That's crazy! Everybody cares about love… Well, except maybe that rude octopus we live next to.)"
"She's a scientist. I guess she just sees things more realistically".
"Meow (But love is real, you know that better than anybody in this whole town)"
"Of course, I know that, Gare… I just don't think Sandy knows that. I mean, I'm sure she feels love for people like her parents, but I know she doesn't feel the kind of love…" his voice trailed off.
"Meow? (That you feel for her?)"
He sighed, "Yeah. I'm crazy about her, Gary. But if I told her… well, she'd probably just think I was crazy… period".
Meanwhile...
Sandy sat in her nightgown on the couch in her big oak tree, flipping through the television channels. Sports, local news, infomercials and what not.
"There ain't ever anything good on TV on Sundays," she said aloud, placing her elbow on her leg and propping up her chin with her fist. With a glazed look in her eye, she continued to change the channels. Till she landed on a made-for-TV movie.
"Sandra… Sandra, look at me" said a male fish.
This caught her attention. "Hey, that's my name ya varmint!" she said aloud.
"Sandra!" he huffed.
"What, Stanly?!" asked a frustrated female fish who turned around to look at him.
"We both know we can no longer go on pretending that there's nothing between us…" he said.
"I don't know what you're talking about- "he grabbed her by the shoulders.
"Don't lie to me! I know you feel it, I can see it in your eyes…" he stared into her eyes deeply.
The woman tried to look away from his alluring gaze. The man shook her almost violently. "Tell me you feel it! Tell me!" he demanded.
"I-I-yes! I… - "she trembled in fear. She then looked back into his eyes and they stared for a few moments. Till he yanked her closer to him and kissed her passionately on the lips.
Sandy nearly gagged at the sight. "You people are plumb crazy. I just don't understand all this mush" she said aloud as the film's end credits rolled by.
Just then, a faint knocking could be heard. She turned off the television and listened in closely. "What in tarnation?" she said quietly.
Knock, knock, knock
She wanted to get to the bottom of the mysterious sound, so, she slipped on her karate gloves and quietly left the tree.
She stood with her back pressed against the tree trunk, peeking out from behind It and scanning the outside of the dome. She heard the knock again, this time she could tell it was coming from the front door. She then grabbed her air helmet and put it on.
"Who could be sneakin' around here at this hour?"
A few moments later, she opened the door to reveal the mailman, holding a box and a clipboard. "Package for Miss Sandra Cheeks," he said blandly. She gasped.
"My chemicals! Hot diggity" she said with glee, grabbing the clipboard and signing her name.
"Y'all are runnin' kinda late today, aren't ya?" she asked, handing him back the clipboard.
He shrugged "It's been a long day, miss. I'd rather not discuss it, if you don't mind".
"Oo-kay then…" she said, taking the box from him. She watched as he jumped back into the truck and sped off. She scoffed "Some people." She then went back inside.

"A few moments later."
Sandy had her science goggles strapped to her head, as she mixed a number of different chemicals together, causing the liquids in the test tube to turn different shades of green.
"Mm-hm should be almost finished," she said. She had the delivery box sitting on the table she was working on. She moved it out of the way, suddenly hearing a clanking noise coming from it.
"What the…" she peeked inside. There happened to be another small vial of sparkling pink liquid. "Well, I'll be! I wonder how I could've missed this one…" she then poured it into the test tube, causing it to bubble and turn a bright, neon pink.
"That's it! With this, I'll finally be able to read everybody's minds" the thought of Patrick then entered her head. "Well… maybe I don't wanna read everybody's mind" she shuddered at the thought.
"Bottoms up!" she said, gulping down the liquid. "Ahh".
She then got the full taste of the chemicals, smacking her lips together. "Hmm… that's funny, this is really sweet" she shrugged. "Well, time for bed. Can hardly wait to see what other people are thinkin' tomorrow" with that, she headed back inside her oak tree.
Little did she know, every single one of the five chemicals that were shipped in that box was correct…. well, except for one.
The now empty vial rolled off the table and hit the grassy ground, revealing a very tiny printed label that read:
Number 2625: Valentine.
A/N: Well, this was chapter one. As I said, this is going to be a much shorter story than Lovesick Sponge, but it will still be posted in chapters as I realized it's a little too long to be a one-shot. With that being said, I hope you've found this interesting so far and Happy (early) Valentine's Day. :)
