Author's Note: For my English class, we all had to write a ballad. So, as I had just watched Howl's Moving Castle there was nothing else going on in my brain except "The stars are dying all around me." I didn't manage to work it into the poem, but I did get this.
And even as the Earth stood still
Above gave up a cry,
And shook in violence, trembled so,
The stars fell from the sky.
And screaming, came they falling far,
To crash upon the ground,
To burst upon the rocks and stones,
Or in the lake, they drowned.
Some wept to see their fate come forth.
Some tried to fight the fall.
Despite their struggles, they could not
Dodge what awaits us all.
One wretched light had closed his eyes
To know not where he'd land.
But when they opened, found themselves
Tucked in a child's hand.
"Why did you choose," the child asked,
"To fall, and then to die?"
"I didn't choose at all," replied,
"To tumble from the sky."
"I've no intent to end my life.
There's still much left to see!
Please hear my wish, please help me live,
Give part of you to me."
If you had caught a falling star
And found his fires dim,
Would you try to save his life, or
Share your own with him?
Anything born in the sky can't
Live upon the earth
Unless he shares that life with one
Who's been there since his birth.
"I'll help you live." The child chose.
"I'll play my role, my part.
That you may live upon the earth
I give to you my heart."
