Chloe knew she had the bad habit of throwing her heart into the deep end and letting it get ravaged by the sharks of disappointment. The rebounds were already hitting her with full unforgiving force.

So when she had her hand comfortingly on Bette's shoulder helping her, while Davis was in EMT mode, she felt it was the prelude to something important. As the days went by, she was happy to get a glimpse and went out of her way not to avoid him. He always looked happy to see her. She felt less stalkerish.

As the months went by she no longer felt too nervous when he stood next to her changing the lightbulbs. She could relax while he held her hand almost absently. She no longer could say 'no gifts between friends" but any guy had the right to spoil his girlfriend. He could express his deepest fears without feeling the embarrassment of societal stereotyping.

Day by day they knew every secret, every fault, every worry. Every obstacle that hit them, they hit back with combined efforts. Chloe and Davis knew one false step into doubt would send them steering off the road if the other person didn't grab the steering in time.
