A/N: A little one-shot that popped into my mind. The Marauders.

Disclaimer: If I owned the Harry Potter, Moony & Padfoot would never have died.

Marauders

Remus was the artistic one; chocolate and self doubt and the musty smell of old parchment, getting them out of trouble when they were thrown out of the Library or caught sneaking around after curfew. He was the one the teachers gave the badge, hoping it would keep them from making trouble. But Remus was also loyalty and mischief, and wolf, and he stuck by the friends who had saved him from himself. He was Moony.

Peter was the small one, overlooked by most, deemed talentless and pathetic; he was awed silence and adoring audience, and he was rat – he was useful, and he was funny, and they helped him. He was Wormtail. But he was jealousy and loneliness and fear also, and he was shadow. He betrayed them.

Sirius was the contradiction; darkness and anger and facade, but loyal and caring and charming to a fault. He was mastermind and arrogance, hatred and love, hurting and hurt. He was the loose cannon, the one they steered away from fights, the one who's ideas were genius. He was the one who was different, and he was Gryffindor where blood dictated he was Slytherin, light where blood dictated dark, but he never lost the shadow of his family. He was Padfoot.

James was the heart; arrogant and charming and loving Lily Evans, and he was the prankster. He was the star also, Gryffindor chaser and exuberant genius, but most of all he was a friend – the one they turned to when they needed a brother, because he had love enough to share. He had his faults too, as did they all; he was a bully to those he hated, and he thought too much of himself. But he was a good man, a hero, and he was remembered. He was Prongs.

Together, they made up the Marauders, and they were on top of the world. The future was theirs for the taking, and they made history. But one night, one night that was to be the end of the war, they fell at last, betrayed by one of their own. And then they were no longer the Marauders: Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs. They were alone.
