Hawkeye. Sharpshooter.
Royai. Anime-verse. Post-film (mostly).
It was the look in his eye that really made her mad. After all, who did he think he was? Some kind of big-shot superhero with powers of invincibility? He definitely did not have powers of invincibility. Or two eyes. How did he think he was supposed to aim with only one eye (although he was doing pretty well so far). She would have thought that two eyes were nesseccary, what with the whole 'depth perception' thing.
And now here he was, back on the ground, looking at her with that infuriatingly cheeky grin. She wanted to shoot him.
She slapped him instead.
"Are you insane?" She asked furiously, "What do you think I'm here for?"
He looked at her sheepishly, but he still had that grin. He knew, and she knew, that there was nothing she could have done up in the air and she would be more useful working from the ground but...
It was HIM.
And it was HER.
He wasn't supposed to be going off without her! She was his... she was his... friend? Now that she stopped and thought about it, she didn't actually know what she was to him. She'd never asked, because it had never been anything but 'his lieutenant'. And now...
Now he was an enlisted man.
Now she had a higher rank than he did.
But she was still calling him 'sir'.
And he was still acting like a General.
And what had she said to him? "We've been waiting for you, sir."
She watched his fingers twitching, and she wanted him to hold her hand. But she wasn't entirely sure that he would want to hold her hand. And they were standing in front of everyone. E V E R Y O N E.
What would they say if he... ?
She went to salute, stiffly, but her hand dropped halfway, and she turned her head so as not to see him.
"It's good to have you back," she said, mumbled, and then she turned on her heel and walked out of sight, around the corner of a ruined building to surreptitiously wipe the tears from her eyes.
He was her GENERAL. He should not have been making her break like this. She had never broken for ANYONE before, and the last time she had cried had been...
The last time she had cried had been at the grave of her father, when her father's apprentice had told her that he was going to apply for the Military. And she had not understood why he would possibly want to tell Her that. She did not think that she would want to know.
But she had joined up after him. Her spectacularly accurate aim coming in handy after all.
Hawkeye. Sharp shooter.
Making the lazy Colonel do his paper work.
Without emotion of any kind.
She was overcome with the sudden desire to go back out there and hit him again for breaking her heart when he left.
She had a sudden desire to...
She wanted to...
He tapped on the wall beside her and she quickly turned away to make sure that her eyes were actually free of tears. (They were almost free of tears).
"We've got some celebrating to do," he said, "Time to pull out that dress I'm SURE that you own.""
She straightened her back and turned to face him, trying to wipe the grin off her own face, even though her mouth was bursting to match the smirk on his.
"Of course, sir," she said.
