Hide and Seek

Prologue

"Never change, for the sake of others. There will be no one like you if you change."

Departure

Tarnished golden orbs met with those of vivacious grey and that was all the indication she needed. The metal cell door came crashing down, red hot from the fire, as it freed the beast from its cage. The pair slid out of the confined room cautiously and into the empty corridor of the prison. Without so much as a second glance they knew that they were surrounded, for the echo of heavy footsteps on the chain mail bridges reached their ears but a moment later. The guards outnumbered them ten to two but their aptitude was nothing compared to the duo. They really were no match.

No exchange of words was needed; the two got to work without a seconds hesitation, as if they had not spent the last six years separated from one another. As if the former Princess had not been kept in captivity and the antecedent acrobat had remained loyally by her side throughout.

Flames of shining sapphire surrounded the pair. They towered high over their foes, though the past circus member had no trouble finding her way over them. The prodigy had only to count to ten, a second per sentinel, before allowing the fire to subside into nothingness and reveal nine gagged, iron-clad enemies and another stripped of their armour. Knocked unconscious moments later, they were dragged into the cell and the door was slid neatly back into place, hiding the evidence. The Princess and the acrobat had taken mere moments to eliminate their opponents

Neither of them had a single vexation as they made their way through the labyrinth of corridors towards the exit. Under the Princesses vigilant gaze piercing through the eye-holes of her defensive shell, the ever-joyous gymnast felt safe and secure, and in the luminous company of the girl beside her, the revenge-seeking ex-prisoner felt a smile tug at her lips.
