Gale's POV

In life, sometimes the most simple of things can bring about immense joy. As I lay here with the girl I love asleep on my chest, I don't remember ever feeling so happy aside from two very obvious days, the day we married and the day she told me of our child growing within her.

Currently, her heads lays with her own ear laying on top of my heart, she tells me that the steady beat comforts her from the nightmares of the games. As she is laying perpendicular to my outstretched body, I can very conveniently run my fingers through her hair and down to her waist and slightly rounded stomach, where our child resides in warmth and comfort.

With each swipe of my fingers, her lips curl a little in the corners giving away either her consciousness or allowing me to peak into her dreams to know that she is finally resting. Since she lost Peeta to the doctors after the games, she has allowed me to bear witness to the horrible tragedies that happened to her. These torturous anecdotes support my idea of wrapped her in my arms and never allowing her to leave, thus ensuring her continued safety.

Her giggles alerts me to her awareness. Her fingers reach out to run through the jade blades of grass that surround us, giving us the privacy of our own little world for a few hours. I am also alerted by this giggles that she took some pain medication the capitol provided for her ear today as she would never giggle if she were in her right mind. She is too serious for that display of emotions to ever happen outside of our house or our cabin in the woods and even then a giggles escaping her is a rare occurence.

"What has you giggling today my love?" I ask, allowing my deep tone to send vibrations down my chest to where she lays. One of her hands abandons the grass reaches for my hand that is resting on her head. She picks it up and carefully holds it in both of her own.

"That tickles, though the baby likes it" Katniss whispers and pulls my hand to the front of her stomach so that I can feel it moving ever so slightly. I leave my hand there and marvel at the movement of the creation that is half of me and half of Katniss. We lay in silence for a few more minutes before she speaks again, "What time is is?"

"Probably time to go back so we can get the game back to our mothers." I answer. Kat nods but makes no move to get up, rather burrowing as far into my chest as she can get. I allow her a few more minutes of peace before I speed us on our way. "Come on Catnip real life awaits us." I hear her sigh as I help her to stand and we start the trek back the fence.
