Lithium Act I

The girl ran, desperate to get away. The street was long and dark, faint luminescence escaped the curtains of the shuttered houses like sleeping eyes. The world was asleep, lost in a rose-colored dream where monsters and cruelty didn't exist. It was a fantasy whispered by mothers to their wide-eyed babes and in tucking in tender-faced tots. There was nothing there. Nothing lurking beyond the darkness, but the girl knew.

She knew it was a lie.

The flapping of great wings from above circled closer. Her slender frame struck the pavement, crashing helplessly down. Talons withdrew, the curved tips gleaming a slick crimson. "Demon!" she hissed, clutching the canvas bag ever tighter to her body. She dragged herself up against the cold metal of a chain-link fence, her violet-blue eyes taking in the movements of the man's form as he elegantly swooped down, his wings folding on his back.

"Woman…" his voice was velvet, refined.

She stiffened. "Murderer…"

His expression never changed, "I believe you have something of ours."

A/N: I think I'm getting a cold. My nose runs and my throat is scratchy. Ah well. Thanks for reading; I believe this should turn out pretty good. No flames or idiotic spammers.
