Fortifications west of Lightgaurd, Doomwood sector.

The sun hasn't even shown itself yet. Which isn't that big of a surprise looking at all the fog hanging around the campsite, but while it's still dark the distinct sound of hammers and shovels are echoing through the surrounding woods.

The soldiers can feel the tension while they work, scouts have reported that the main Evil army had moved swiftly across the barren planes of Skullholme and the river Stix at the border between Skullholme and Doomwood, the soldiers also knew the massacre at Pont Varonis after the Duke of Doomwood, Karl von Stix hadn't been able to stop the crossing of the Evil's main contignent led by Sepulchure himself.

The duke's 30.000 man army had been made out of mostly conscripts but reinforced with 2000 heavy cavalry, 500 Lycan mercenaries and an experienced core of war veterans. On paper quite a decent army to fight the Evil hordes.

They had been easily wiped out in 3 days and after their defeat Pont Varonis had been burned to the ground and the 65.000 residents had been killed, zombified or had been taken as slaves .

The soldiers here had ofcourse been shocked by the news about their comrades that had fallen at the Stix, but that made them even more eager to build their fortified positions and dig their moats.

Lightgaurd and surrounding area are located on a hill overlooking the Doomwood forest. The main fortifications consist of dirt walls situated on the slope with dirt from the deep moat in front of it. The dirt walls have been reinforced with wooden stakes pointed towards the moat to stop enemies from scaling the walls, around every 30 meter there are low wooden towers to function as firing position for mages and archers , who have a clear view of the area because the wood needed to build the fortifications had been chopped down in a 300-meter radius in front of the main wall to limit the amount of cover for advancing enemies. The soldiers are mostly finishing the wooden fencing on top of the walls to provide cover for them during battle.

Moving deeper into the camp along the many army tents decorated with flags flying the the gold-red colours of Lightgaurd is a small cluster of tents with blood red flags And a silver viper. The flag of the baroness of Vidalja.

Talking about tents, in the middle of the camp behind a wall of heavily armed guards is a very large tent, looking at the richly decorated fabric you can guess it's important, well your right. You're looking at the 7th Army headquarters.

--

The large tent is dominated by a large wooden tabel with a map on it in the middle of the room. Three men clad in armor are leaning on the table and are staring intently at the large map in front of them. Two of the men are in their early twenties.

The first is characterised by his big nose while the second has short black hair, the third is a bit older, probably in his mid thirties, with a black beard and a bald head.

Those three men are not the only ones in the room. Behind a desk is an older man according to his wrinkled face and silver white hair writing in his journal about the progress of the defences. Next to him is a clerk waiting on papers and orders to pass on to the lower officers outside the tent.

The last person is lazily sitting in a comfortable chair away from the men in the room. This person is a young dark-haired women, she is around 1.68 meters tall, has beautiful pale skin and well…. Quite a lovely body according to some rumors in the camp but her most distinct feature are her piercing blood-red eyes. At the moment she is clad in armor and is picking her nails with a bored expression on her face.

--

The whispering of the three men at the table is starting to pick up and is quickly becoming an argument.

'Here we go again.' The women rolls her eyes. 'those men always have to argue about everything.'

The black haired man starts talking louder 'They will be here in five days without a doubt, they move as quickly as the vermin they are' The big-nosed man quickly replies 'Ha they will take at least two weeks because of the treacherous terrain and the beasts that live in the woods.' 'O yea beasts like you Mr. Big-nose.' The women thinks before lazily flexing her right arm. 'And what do you think Sophie? The dark-haired man speaks up.

'Well I think you guys should stop bickering about everything and I don't care whenever they come because they will.' I speak up with a bored tone.

'O well miss lazy shouldn't you be preparing your men in that case?' the dark-haired man retorted.

'And you dare to call me lazy while you have barely even seen your troops!' I know I shouldn't show my my temper like that but damn he is getting on my nerfs. 'I'm sitting here because I am done with my preparations and my men have been ready for two days now!' 'So don't you dare call me lazy!' I lash out at him.

The dark-haired man started to walk closer to me and point at me 'I can call you lazy whenever I……'

'Silence!' The old man from behind the desk speaks up and the tent suddenly went quiet. 'I don't care about this endless bickering' 'Alexander Roggeveld take your brother with you and exercise your men, they are going to need it.' The old man now turned his attention to the bald man 'Alof organize a scouting party to track the enemy movement, and take Winfred (The clerk) with you to bring back the full report of the last scouting party.' 'And you baroness.' Turning to the young women. 'I want to talk to you in private.' 'Dismissed!'

Well this better be good. I think before giving Alexander an evil grin and strolling over towards the old desk with Lord Jozef of Lightgaurd with a stern look on his face. Damn the old man is really going to roast me isn't he.

'Baroness, I want to talk about your recent activities around your men.'

O no he is going to bring that up again, I internally groan.

'I know we should punish cowardice.' The old man continued. 'But hanging 23 men in the last 4 days is a bit…. Too much.'

'I guess you know that your men like to refer to you as 'The Ice Queen.'

'Yep I know the last two I hanged called me that behind my back I simply made an example and as long as they fear me they will follow me.'

The old man just looked at me like I was insane 'Fear isn't the anwser to everything, I know you have been through much but don't let it control you.'

I laugh at that statement. 'The fun thing is fear doesn't control me, I am the one controlling it and when fighting a ruthless enemy iron control is everything.'

The old man sighs 'I guess changing your mind is impossible, at least for me.' 'Well in that case just take it easy with the nooses, we are running low on rope.'

Yep could only my problem, having a lack of rope to hang people. 'Yea I'll try to find a more *economic* way'. I say to my commander before walking through the tent entrance.

Outside I see a welcome sight. 'Hey Alice.' I wave before walking over to my good-old fire mage friend. 'Finally someone who doesn't hate me!'

The slender young women with strawberry blond hair turns around and grins at me. 'Hey, how bad did the old-man roast you?'

'Bad as always.' I reply before hugging her.

'The old man isn't that fond of me hanging my men.'

'And he is totally right.' She says with a disgusted face. 'You know I am not that fond of blood and death.'

'Yep, says the fire mage who is scared of her own fire, is there actually anything your not scared of?'

She simply rolls her eyes at this and tugs me along towards the training ground were a group of soldiers is training.

At the training ground are a few wooden/straw dummies, with a simple flick of her wrist she sets the dummies ablaze.

'O and I am scared of my own fire?' the pyromancer says before rolling her eyes at me.

'O yes you are' I reply with a sly grin. 'The only reason your not freaked out right now is because the dummies are quite a distance away!'

'I really hate you sometimes' the pyromancer groans while staring at the sky.

'I also love myself, now let's get to work we don't have all day.'

Close to Lightgaurd,

Surrounding forrest, Doomwood front.

Two men are walking underneath the dark branches of the dead trees. One of the men is a huge doomknight standing at 2.05 meters tall clad in complete doomknight armor the other is a young man standing at around 1.77 meters tall with dark hair, pale skin and piercing blood-red eyes. He has a simple steel two-handed longsword resting on his shoulder.

The doomknight speaks up "When will our scouts be back again?" The red-eyed man replies: "I hope soon Edward, before I die out of boredom."

The doomknight chuckles "Yea I also miss the fun we had at the Stix Bec.

Yea I do miss the fighting around there... Bec thinks before spotting movement in the distance, finally took them long enough... "Hey Edward our fun just arrived" I say before an undead wolf with a letter in his fangs jumps from the bushes.

The doomknight takes the letter away from the wolfs fangs before kicking him aside.

"Hey undead dogs also have feelings." Bec says with a mocking tone.

"O fuck off." The doomknight replies before throwing the letter at me. "We're going to have a bit of fun."
