This is from the most recent chapter of Pandora Hearts: Lacie. When you think there can't be anymore puzzles, there are five hundred more that are given to you. This was my attempt to figure out what was going on between Oswald(or Glen) and Jack during this scene.
"That's probably because he was only recently allowed to be seen in high society?" I said simply. I had been watching the strange man for awhile. Glen never seemed to mind who came into his mansion. It became troublesome at times. "Most don't know it, but he's the son of a mistress and spent his life with her in a backwater country town."
Why did he get so upset? He should have known that if he wanted to enter this high class world of dukes and servants, his past would be revealed. His fists tightened up in a bunch. He was holding back something. I could feel it.
"How do you know all that?" he asked. I'm sure I'm not the only one that noticed but he was holding back. What were his true colors? Was it really Lacie he came here for?
"I did some research."
I did nothing as my master placed a hand on my hood. His wrapped up hands grabbed the crimson fabric and pulled it down. "I see. This is… This is my servant Oswald, the older brother of your beloved Lacie."
I finished the work for Glen. I let my head fall back and then forward, letting my hair and hood to fall off. My black hair and violet eyes were shown to the world. I felt no worry or panic. I simply just stared at those green surprised eyes. Of course he didn't know, but why was he surprised?
"Did we meet…at a ball or something?"
"No. My job is to keep watch on everyone of importance. This is the first time we've actually met." I knew we hadn't met before. I kept to myself for the most part. His case, it was so compelling.
"Still, it's pretty unusual for you to show interest in someone," Glen replied, just as confused as the rest of us.
"You're right. I couldn't help but be interested in him," I answered honestly. I could tell that the people that knew me, as well as our guest, were surprised by that simple statement.
"Uh…what?" came the confused inquire of Glen. "I didn't know you swung that way."
"I'm not sure what you mean." He always joked. I just knew more than most people in this room that the man we had invited is odd and not right. "It's just since I first saw him I couldn't help wondering… Why does this man make my skin crawl?"
Silence. Then my master burst out into laughter. It was the truth. The stranger unnerved me. He was different, and not in a good way. He smiled, laughed, and enjoyed himself in a way Glen would but did not make me feel comfortable at all. He tried to behave like a good-hearted being but there was something else to him.
"Do you even hear yourself talk? Try to explain why you felt that way about this man," Glen demanded, recovering from my accidently joke.
"It's not easy to put into words," I tried to explain.
"It's ok; just tell me what you felt."
The guest was still silent. Did he not want me to go on? Though, I would only care what Glen wanted. He had welcomed himself to the world when he stepped into the open. I stared for a second before gathering my words. "To me… Jack Vessalius… feels like water," I began.
"Water."
"Yes. Like a stretch of water so silent and still, even fish avoid it. When you look into it, the only thing you see is your own reflection. You can't see his true nature. Even though he's right in front of me… I can't shake the uncomfortable feeling that no one's actually there…"
I felt a cold liquid of the meal flash over my face. Was it ironic that I described him as the very thing he threw at me? Everyone was silent and he knew he had messed up. His red cheeks and wide green eyes showed the panic he had been in. Though, no one spoke as Lacie dragged him out. She grabbed his by the arm and pulled him out the door. Glen smirked and watched and I said no more. The only thing that broke the silence was Jack's laughter as he was dragged out. In this case, he got the last laugh.
