Let's Play A Game Chpt 1

Zero POV

I didn't know how we got here but we were standing in the middle of an open field just me, Yuuki, and Kuran. It was confusing. Everyone knows we hate each other yet I'm here glaring at him. Why are we together anyway? "What's going on? Where are we?" I looked around again. For some reason there was a small house and on the door a note. I immediately went up to it to see what it said. It was a map. We were on an island.

"What does it say?" That annoying voice... But we should work together to get out of here so I was gonna play nice.

"Here." The map had a dot in the middle probably saying we were there. While he looked at it I looked around making sure we were on an island. I wanted to find the water. It seemed the house was close to the edge of the map meaning water would be beside it. I went on the other side of the house. There was the water and it went farther than the eye can see. There was no way out. Maybe there was a boat. Hopefully...

"Yep. We're on an island."

"Thanks Captain Obvious. I did look at the map first." I went up the stairs leading to the inside of the house. They followed. Three bedrooms and two baths, kitchen, living room... "What the hell? There's weapons all over the place." I was mad. I had no control over anything. Someone did this to us and for a reason but what did they want. Maybe the map... "Give me that." I pulled the map from his hand. Of course I saw it earlier but maybe it said something else so I turned it over. "Push the red button. Find the red button. We have to push it. Maybe it'll say why we're here." Yuuki found it first.

"Here it is. It's on top of the TV." She pushed it. The TV turned that weird grey color when it's not working but there was a voice.

"Good Eveninig. I bet you're wondering why you're here. For my entertainment of course. Anyway we're gonna play a little game. The three of you will not get off this island unless you kill each other. Only one person can come on the boat. Each of you are given three lives. The first two are fakes but be careful when you're down to your last one. That is the real you that will die."

"Three lives? Is this some kind of joke?"

"Nope. You may not want to kill each other but you will become paranoid so will probably not sleep or eat making you quite vulnerable and desperate so much so that it'd be no big deal to kill the other person. Besides after you get the feel of killing the two fake lives it'll feel natural to want to kill the last one. You want to get out? Humans don't like being trapped so I imagine so. Pick who lives and pick who dies. The boat will be here in three days. I'll be watching." The TV went off. I hated not being in control so I just stormed out of the house and went back to the water trying to figure out a way to leave.

"Kiryuu." What does he want now? I didn't answer him. "We only have three days."

"I'm not stupid. You and I both know Yuuki is the one that will get off this island. She won't have to do anything at all. She knows we won't kill her."

"The question is are you willing to fight for your life?"

"Not really but I have a feeling he won't let her off this island if it isn't enjoyable enough. It would bother him if I'd just let you kill me. Besides I always wanted to hurt you."

"Hurt?"

"I know you're too strong for me to kill. I'm a weak level D and you're a Pureblood. It is taught that if you're alone against a Pureblood you have to call for backup or try getting away. I stand no chance against you." I stayed facing the river. The wind was blowing in my face. It calmed me.

"No. You're different. You're the only hunter who could stand against any Pureblood and actually stand a chance. Neither of us could stand killing another person. A level e has to be killed but someone else... You act like this but you're the total opposite. Despite how much we dislike each other we wouldn't kill one another."

"But this time is different. There's no choice. We die here or find another way off but there doesn't seem to be one."

"Well then being we have no choice we'll save Yuuki. No hard feelings. We'll finally know what it feels like huh?"

"And now there's three ways to do it." I turned to him. "I assure you they will be all different and certainly not painless."

"Well that isn't nice to say. We shouldn't be doing it to please him or our hidden feelings. We're doing it for her."

"We might as well enjoy it. We'll die eventually. Everything is game. Bring your imagination to life. I know you've thought of me dying by your hands plenty of times. I want to know what you're thinking so show me. Make it fun." I walked into the woods and kept walking.

Later on I decided to come back to the house. There was a fire and they were around it. "I'm back." They were frying some fish over the fire. They put an extra chair I assume for me in the middle of them. So I sat and watched the fish cook. I knew the guy wanted us to kill each other probably in really cruel ways so I've been thinking of ways I could die. I hadn't thought about fire yet. Hopefully if I do get burned it's my fake life. After we finished eating the fish Yuuki decided to go to bed early. She could. She knew she wouldn't be killed. Soon after she went to bed Kuran went inside. It was fishy being he just told me we would kill each other. We only have three days. I need to be on my game. I'm not letting him get me so easily so I followed him. He was staring down at the weapon stockpile. "What are you doing?"

"What does it look like? We have three days with each of us having three lives. It means two times each day. So we have to kill each other today, tomorrow, and the next day. If we just sleep today it's just more work tomorrow."

"I don't like knowing ahead of time I'm dying. You couldn't have done it more subtly?"

"I didn't think you'd follow me inside."

"You think I'm stupid?"

"No... I'm hoping you'll be entertaining. I finally can expect a taste." His eyes glowed red.

"You wouldn't." He knows how scared I am of getting bitten. I disliked him but I trusted he'd never do that.

"I thought you weren't stupid. I have to kill you so why not get what I've always wanted. You're one of those people that makes it really hard for vampires to resist you. I'm sure you wouldn't know what it felt like. Predators might go after big prey maybe because they're weaker but maybe it's because they'll actually put up a fight. Hunters and vampires are mortal enemies. Every wonder why vampires like going after hunters instead of weak, easy humans? To taunt them... Maybe. But it's much more than that. It's invigorating. Putting up that much of a fight makes you feel more thirsty. I don't know but after a fight like that the kill is that much better. I don't know if it's because it's a hunter's blood or just wanting it so long and finally getting it." I hurriedly pulled out my gun and shot at him but that's when he tackled me so it only grazed him. We both landed outside after tumbling down the stairs.

"Let me up and fight like a man!"

"No. You said to play out my imagination. You'd put up a fight knowing how I'm gonna kill you this time. It's vampire versus hunter. Make it interesting for me." He was kneeling over me after I took most of the damage from the stairs. My back hurt and my head was still spinning. I didn't like this being easy for him. I tried crawling away from him but he gripped my shoulders to hold me to the ground. "Don't tell me a top ranking hunter is just going to let a vampire do." His fangs grew. "I didn't realize you were so gullible to believe my demeanor would be the same as earlier perceived. You would never think I would do this despite knowing I'm a Pureblood. No matter how I act around you or Yuuki I have thought of it many times. Now it seems I finally have my chance." He grabbed a handful of my hair and jerked my head back. "Hmm... Your hair is soft... I never would've guessed." Him obsessing over my hair gave me the chance to grab my gun. He brought his head to my neck. I felt his fangs brush against me but right before he was gonna bite me I shot him in the chest. He moved away which gave me the opportunity to get out from under him. One bullet wasn't enough to kill a Pureblood but it hit a good spot. We both stood our ground waiting for the other to make the first move. He started removing to white off of his school uniform and dropping it to the ground. "I suggest you take that jacket off. I don't want it getting in the way when I go to taste you." Even more reason to leave it on... I noticed the blood on his chest and couldn't stop my eyes from turning red. "Thirsty?"

"No, seething." He attacked me first this time with his claws but I dodged and shot back. Another stupid shoulder shot.

"Fight me like you do those level E's." I was about to shoot again but then was kicked against a tree. My back hurt a whole lot more now so I shot at him a few more times until I stood up. He charged at me. I forget. I'm a vampire too. I brought out my claws and gave him a nice uppercut to the chin. He wasn't getting my blood that easy. When he was almost up I tackled him back to the ground and started punching him. I knew it wouldn't kill him but at least it'd slow him down enough for me to get better shots. He pushed me off of him. I quickly grabbed my gun and pointed it at his face when he was now just inches from my face. "Aren't you gonna finish me off, Kiryuu?" Before I could shoot he wrapped his arm around mine twisting it behind my back so I couldn't move. I had dropped the gun. He slammed my head against the nearby picnic table. He let my arm go and I fell to the ground trying to hold the seat to stay up. I had to move. If I didn't he'd finish me. But I hurt all over and my energy was nearly drained. He grabbed my hair and forced me back on the ground. "Are you finished?"

"You really have to ask your prey that? So much for being a Pureblood." I pushed him off of me then tried getting my gun. The bullets should be taking effect so he should be weaker than I am now. But he kicked the gun away. It seemed we both were at our limits but our adrenaline wasn't letting us quit fighting for our lives. I didn't have a weapon so I had to fight with my combat skills from my intense hunter training and my vampire strength. This time I attacked him first. We were fighting for our lives so when our punches didn't give the desired effect we switched to hitting each other with random stuff beside us. After our slight boxing match both of our lips were busted. I had some teeth knocked out and probably a forming bruise somewhere on my face. Both of our uniforms were falling apart. It didn't look like Mr. Perfect. I'm sure to him I looked normal being I never wore my clothes 'correctly'. Recently he clawed my chest but not too deep. Still he had my blood on him and just to taunt me he licked it off his fingers.

"You're smelling better every second. You're good. Just thinking about drinking from you gets me excited."

"Now I really get to see how you are behind that mask. Just like I always thought... And people thought I was stupid to think such a thing. Look at you. Your followers who think so highly of you for not acting like the rest of your kind, like you tout, would think you went mad. But you're just like them. Just like all the other Purebloods who use their power to control everyone below them."

"No. It's just like that with you. They'd understand. If they would ever have this chance they'd be..."

"Dead."

"Hmm... It's always good talking to you. I always laugh at your jokes." I leaned against the picnic table feigning defeat. He came closer thinking it was all over while I kept eyeing the pan used to fry the fish that was behind me on the table. When he got close enough I hit him in the face with the pan but it barely did him anything. He knew it was coming so blocked it. Still I had enough time to grab a handful of ash and threw it in his eyes. While he was momentarily blinded I went to get my gun which was on the other side of Chicago (just a saying). But just before I touched the handle he grabbed me and threw me onto the picnic table totally destroying it with the weight of my body added to the force applied. I was on the ground between the two halves of the table. The wood was shattered and the metal bent beneath me. He looked at me slowly getting up. It seemed he was impressed. It wasn't as easy as he had hoped. That's why he grabbed my gun. I lifted part of the table beside me so I could crawl under it. I headed toward the fire where the now broken handle of the pan lay. I could shove this in his chest and then... I'd win. It seemed he knew that's where I was headed. He placed the handle in the fire and I watched it melt. Now the only chance I had was to get the gun back. He dragged me from under the table. I tried getting up but I couldn't go anymore.

"A big bad Pureblood needs an anti-vampire weapon to kill a lowly level D?"

"No but you said everything's game and I'm injured. You put up a good fight but I need to tend to my wounds before the bullets take care of me. Now I know despite how much pain you're in you'll struggle and right now I need you to be still..." He shot me but not in a lethal area. "Very, very still." He shot me two more times. Now I know how he felt. It burned so much. He tossed the gun to the side where I couldn't reach it. "Now. As for killing you..." He forced his hand threw my back and gripped my heart. "I could do that right now." He took his hand out of me. "But it'd be boring. And I'm thirsty." I could smell the blood dripping off of him. His body needed my blood. But my body also needed his blood. It hurt so much knowing I was so close to getting it... and to healing myself. He and I both knew he had to kill me now because if he wouldn't the bullets could end him and I'd win. Barely but still. His pride wouldn't allow that. Look out when I go to kill him later. I was so close. There were only a few bullets left in the magazine. I emptied the rest inside him. I was so sure that amount would've killed him. It took him long to lift me up maybe because he's so injured. I'd like to see him suffering just for a few seconds. He grabbed my collar and lifted me up to drag me closer to the fire where his chair was. After he sat he put me on his lap facing away from him.

"Tomorrow it's my turn."

"If you can put up a better fight than today then maybe." His right arm was wrapped around my waist and my arms. The other slid to my neck to push my head on his shoulder and then to the side. "...Sorry." Then he bit me. I heard him swallowing my blood...
