Chapter 1- Three Keys

21 Years Ago…Midnight, A lone dark figure in a room.

"Yes…," the raspy voice came from the dark figure. It was cold, unforgiving, as if an infinite supply of malice was flowing from it. "Finally, after all this time," the figure continued, "the Grimleal will at last have their master return." The dark figure flipped open the book he held in his hand and traced his finger down the cryptic words that filled the page. The book was covered in dark purple, and along the front had a very looking dreadful symbol. It had six eyes following what seemed to be a V, three eyes on each side.

"My third, and final piece has arrived to me…my third child." The figure turned over to the lone crib in the room

"My son…" He looks down at the occupant, "Your, along with your sisters, destiny is perhaps the greatest of all our lineage." A wicked grin grew on his face. "Along with your two sisters, you will be able to release Grima for the hell hold those damned Naga servants put him in." The figure walked over and ran his long slender fingers over the newborn's face.

The child laying in the crib looked to be in a deep sleep. Its face twitching every so often from the dream it was currently having. A sweet innocent dream, not aware of what its father was current planning.

"Reflect!" The figure turned and yelled out the door to the room.

A small paddle of footsteps could be heard from down the hallway. A short, young girl arrived at the doorway. She looked to be about seven years old, and had brown hair tied into pig tails. The hair was flipped over her shoulders.

She looked up with her brown eyes at the tall, dark looming figure, "Yes, father?" Her response to her father was quick and formal, she knew what would happen if she ignored, or was too slow to respond.

"Make sure your younger sister is ready for the spell tomorrow, now that I have the third and final key, the ritual can begin."

"Yes father." She replied, and quickly ran out to complete her father's plan.

"Nothing can stop us now…," he starts laughing in a low tone and looks down to his newborn son…" Robin…"

The Following Day…10 A.M.,Grimleal Praying Site

The sun once again rises on the massive desert of Plegia, a light breeze blows over the sand dunes.

A massive amount of people, easily over 500, gather around a large stone pillar. The pillar was a thick round cylinder at the bottom, then thins out as it gets taller. It splits near the top to form two peaks which curves inward as it ended. Right in the center of the pillar was a symbol, a symbol that matched the dark purple book. The pillar was sat upon a large stone platform, overlooking the desert dunes.

Everyone in attendance was dressed in a dark purple robe, with the hoods over their heads. Once again, the six eyes, outlined in black, could be seen lining the sleeves.

Not a single noise was made as they gathered around the pillar. One robed person stepped up and glanced at the crowd with its hooded eyes.

"Now," the singular Grimleal member yelled out to the crowd, his voice echoing across the dunes," after a millennium of waiting, our three keys have arrived." The priest raises an arm, "Today, we shall bestow the power to awaken our God, Grima, to the three children of our highest ranked… Validar." He pauses and nods towards one of the taller worshipers in the front row. "His family's blood links him to our powerful Grima, and his children's arrival matches the prophecy written." He waves forward a few standing in the front row." Our hierarch, Validar, will now take over and begin the ritual."

The tall, skinny sorcerer stepped up, along with him were two small robed figures, and one adult holding and infant. The infant, along with the adult, were both wearing the same robes as the others. However, the infant and the two children had the eyes on their sleeves outlined in a neon purple, distinguishing them from the rest. The priest standing before them steps down into the crowd.

The four of them form a semi-circle around Validar as he pulls out the purple book from last night. He flips to a certain page and puts his eyes on the three children and began speaking," Now my children, bring forth your right hand."

The two small children stuck out their right hands, palms down facing the floor, while the adult held the infant's out.

"The three keys to release are," he glances at his eldest daughter, Reflect," Despair," he turns towards the smaller girl," Emptiness," he locks his eyes upon Robin," and Fear. Each of you will hold onto one of these powers, and when you have fully awakened your dark skills, you will unleash Grima form his prison, and we shall kneel before our great god again…"

"Now let's begin…the beginning of the end for those who worship false Gods."

He faces Reflect. "Reflect, upon you I bestow the power of Despair, the darkest symbol. Not only will you lead your brother and sister, you will also be one of our enemy's greatest obstacles. You will find their hope, and crush it. Their lack of will shall allow us to demolish their armies!"

He waves his hand over Relfect's, and mumbles a spell under his breath. When he removes his hand from above Relfect's, the six eyed symbol starts to glow brighter. And for a moment, it looked as if her brunette hair laying out on her chest flashes white for a spit second, before returning back to its original color.

Looking rather pleased, Validar turns to face the younger daughter of his.

"Rachel," he looks down at the young girl, who could have been older than four, had pink hair sticking out of her robes, "I give you the power of Emptiness. May you make our enemies realize that their efforts are futile, and they will give up, knowing they mean nothing in the face of our god!" Validar laughs under his breath. Again he waves his hand over his daughter's. When he is finished, her hair, like her sister's, flashes white before returning to normal.

After the spell is finished, he moves on to his youngest. The young boy who knew nothing of what was going on, and was being surprisingly quiet for an infant.

"And Robin," he grabs the infant's hand with his long, stick-like fingers," You will have the power of Fear. The fear that will drive the Naga servants to their knees, the fear that will keep our country in check, the fear that will make sure no little kingdom fights back!" He ends that sentence with a rough voice, also having develop a scowl. "That Ylissean King will learn his place." He starts muttering under his breath.

Since the infant had yet to grow hair, the signal for the spell being used correctly came from his eyes. Validar lifted the infant's hood to see that Robin had dark purple eyes, with what seemed like purple steam emitting from them. This had lasted for only a moment before his eyes returned to normal, with his gray irises returning. Satisfied with the result, Validar puts the hood back over Robin's head.

"You may return to your places," Validar spats at the three standing before him. The two children and the adult walk down the platform. "Your three powers will work hand in hand too not only revive Grima, but have our rivals surrender to us. You will command our armies, and lead us to victory!"

"Now my children," Validar starts to yell," go forth, and claim your DESTINY!" He thrusts his hand into the air.

"LONG LIVE GRIMA!" All of the Grimleal raise their hands, showing a blackened tattoo of the symbol the children bore.

"MUHAHAHAH!"

Two Years Later….11:30 P.M., Grimleal Territory

"Spread out! FIND HER!" The voice in the dark rang out.

A women ran through the grass, holding a hand of a two year old following close behind her. They duck to hide into the tall grass. The girl peaks her head over to see how far her pursers were. Deciding that they were far enough for a quick breather, she kneels down and checks the pack she has with her.

After checking the pack she looks towards the toddler. "Robin," she whispers," I'm sorry for what he did to you," she pauses for a breath," I can't undo what I have done, but you can still be saved…you're the only one who can be saved." Her voice wavers somewhat. "I'm taking you to the city, I know someone who can hide you from him. However," she lowers her voice a bit more," you won't be able to see us anymore." Robin looks up at her with confusion. Tears star falling from her face. She grabs both of the young boy's shoulders, "You have to be strong…for all of us…"

"What's going on?" Robin asks as he sees her tears.

"You have to show him that we cannot give up without a fight," she brushes a strand of blue hair from his eye, ignoring his question, "I believe in you… that you can save everyone."

She notices the torch light getting closer to them. "Let's go." She pats the toddler on the back and they start moving again.

'Saving you won't undo everything, but after tonight, I don't think I'll get another chance.' She thinks to herself. 'But I have to do this, stop his evil plan,' she glances behind her at him, 'and give you the chance to live the way YOU want to live.'

She grips his hand harder as they sped off into the night…

Present Day…?,?

'Haziness' that's all I feel. It's dark, and I feel like there is this swirling inside of me… like something was trying to piece itself together in me. There were pieces swirling around…like a jigsaw puzzle I was trying to put together…but I just couldn't grasp them.

I need to focus…I need to concentrate…

Slowly, one by one, it felt like the pieces were putting themselves together…my consciousness was starting to take form with each piece's connection. The swirling pieces started to stop, and I realized…I was laying down on something.

What am I laying on? I started to get feeling back into my fingers. I began moving them around. What is this? It feels slick…and…furry? No… no that's not it.

I suddenly get this feeling rush through my body. It feels…breezy outside…It's kind of cold. This thing I'm laying on is…. What? What is it? I could feel myself start to get angry, why couldn't I remember? I strained my brain to think, but I still felt like this haze in my head is clouding…something. Memories perhaps? I…can't….

Another shock runs through my body, this is…grass…yes, yes it is! Something started coming through my ears…I could hear wind! What else was there? If also felt like some…one (?) was talking.

I need to open my eyes.

"…have…do some-…"

Someone was talking! I need to focus! I have to…wake up…have to…Focus!

"What do you suppose we do?" A man… that was a man talking. I have to open my eyes…have to focus, clear the fog in my head.

"Uh, I don't know!" Another voice…this one seemed more…feminine. So a women, I think? Just…have…to open…

My eyes shot open…big mistake.

"AH!" My hand shot up from my side to cover my eyes from the bright light. Slowly, I started blinking…and my eyes finally adjusted. I move my hand away to see two people leaning over me. They had a concern look in their eyes. The one to the left was a man, with…blue hair? That's weird. He looked young, most likely to be around his early twenties. He also seemed to be wearing some sort of battle gear. But the strangest part about that was he remained armor less down his whole right arm. In place of it however, he had this tattoo on his lower shoulder. It looked like a teardrop falling into an awkwardly shaped bowl.

It did look familiar for some reason. Perhaps I knew him once before?

The girl on the right was obviously younger. She had blonde hair that was pulled up into pig tails. It also seemed like she was wearing a dress.

"Ah, I see you're awake now." The man said to me.

"Hey there." The women giggled.

"There are better places to take a nap than on the ground you know." The man smiles at me and reaches his hand out to me, "Here, give me your hand."

Should I trust him? I was left starring into his eyes. I had this weird feeling of Deja Vu… I could have sworn I met him before.

What the hell, I'll trust him. I reached out to grasp his hand.

That's when I saw it, or at least I think I saw something. It was weird, but when I grabbed his hand, this purple mark showed itself on the back of my right hand.

Something suddenly came to me, and I inhaled sharply…

There he was, the blue haired man. He was running towards me. I think I just got hit by something, so I was lying down on the floor. Whatever hit me hurt, because my chest feels quite heavy now.

We were in some kind of church…It was dark, and had markings all along the walls.

The blue haired man slid to me "Are you all right? Can you move?"

I nodded, and he reached out his hand to me, "Come on, let's finish this then."

I grasped his hand, "Thanks, Chrom…" And that symbol, was on my hand…and glowing brightly…

My consciousness came back to me, and Chrom pulled me up from the grass.

That's it, his name is Chrom, but whatever just happened to me, didn't feel right…

Like it never happened.

"There we go," Chrom grunts as he finishes pulling me up, "you were lucky no brigands found you, or else it would have been a rude awakening." He smiles at me as I get myself settled into the first time standing…or at least that I can remember right now. I looked down to my hand to see if that mark was still there, but it disappeared.

"Thanks, Chrom" I smile back.

He raises an eyebrow at me, "Ah, you know my name…Have we met before?"

Just as I thought, we never had met before. "Um, no…it sort of just…came to me." I start looking around, trying to take in my surroundings, "I'm sorry, but where am I?"

The young girl speaks up, "You're on the border of Ylisse."

Ylisse? Must be a country or something.

There was a lot of green. There were some rolling hills behind Chrom. I was standing in some kind of plain, with very few trees littered about. Farther back looked to be a small dirt road. Probably where my two saviors came from.

Chrom puts his hand on my shoulder, "Well, you know my name, may I ask yours?"

I turned my head to him, "My name?"

He nods.

What was it? Did I even have a name? Of course I must've…I closed my eyes and wracked my brain to see if I could remember anything.

Nothing...dammit. "I'm sorry, I seem to be unable to recall anything at the moment." I open my eyes to see Chrom nodding sympathetically. Chrom looked as if he was about to say something, but a voice called out behind him.

"Milord?" The speaker sounded older than the two standing in front of me.

Chrom took his hand off me, and turns to face to source of the noise.

"Yes, Frederick?" Chrom replied to the person who was running up to us.

This new person was a male, taller than all of us. He was wearing blue armor, and had messy brown hair. He ran up to Chrom and stood to attention, as if addressing a master, or someone of higher rank.

"Milord," the figure addressed Chrom, "we must hurry if we wish to arrive back in time for the council meeting tomorrow." He lays his eyes upon me, and adopted a threatening look, "I see we have found a newcomer…" he steps towards me, "what business do you have with Milord and Milady, stranger?"

"Stand down Frederick," Chrom steps in, "we merely found this man lying in the grass." Chrom looks back to me. "Do you happen to remember anything? Such as why you're in the middle of a field?"

I sigh, "I'm truly sorry," I look down to my feet, "I can't seem to remember anything."

This Frederick raises an eyebrow to me.

"I know what this is!" The girl in yellow jumps next to me. "They call it…amnesia!"

"I call it load of Pegasus dung." The stern man interrupted. He faces Chrom, "Are we to believe we found this man," he points to me, "with no memories, lying this close to the border? Not to mention the Plegian cloak he is wearing!"

'Plegian'? Is that the cloak itself? Or something else entirely? And why can't I shake the feeling of nostalgia when I hear that?

"If anything," Frederick continues, "we should hold him in custody and question him."

Chrom sighs, "We're wasting daylight like this, let's just talk about it while walking." He starts to walk back to the dirt road but stops. "And that includes you, I can't leave you here lost and confused." He smirks and continues walking.

I guess I have no other choice.

"Looks like you're with us for now," the girl next to me spoke, "c'mon, let's go. It'll be fun!" She skips ahead.

I guess you could call being taken by a bunch of strangers…fun?

Five Minutes Later

It turns out that I happened to be rescued by a group who calls themselves 'Shepherds'…which is interesting. I could have sworn Shepherds tended sheep, not carry around full battle gear.

I should learn not to call other people's hair colors weird...especially when you also have a very interesting hair color. After some inspecting, my hair was actually green. How could I forget that?

I also found out the energetic girl walking next to me was Chrom's sister, Lissa. She didn't look like she would fight like her brother and Frederick. While shepherds usually tended sheep, I still did not want to get on the bad side of the great blue knight. It look like he could really do a number on me if I tried anything.

But it's not like I plan to betray them or anything.

Which brings me to question why they have brought me with them. Good time as any I suppose.

"What is to become of me?" I question Chrom, who was walking slightly ahead of me, "Am I to become your prisoner?"

Chrom chuckles and slows his pace to walk along side with me, "No, although I can see why you'd think that." Chrom kicks a small rock to the side of the road. From the corner of my eye, I could have sworn I saw Frederick smack himself. "We are just going to take you to the next town and question you, then once we have established you are no enemy to Ylisse, you'll be free to go."

Why not just question me now?

I suddenly Lissa take a gasp of air next to me, and I snap my head towards her. "Chrom look!" She points her finger ahead of us, "The town!"
