Juliet's POV – Gertrude's – Late Morning
Tom was on his feet five minutes after I got there. Eragon kept stuttering that it was impossible, that he should have been dead with the wounds he had. I just shrugged and giggled. Eragon led us to Brom, who, as he told us on the way, was an old story teller that had lived in Carvahall since anyone could remember.
Sure enough, when we got there, the Doctor stood in the door grinning at us. I hugged him tightly, glad that he hadn't been hurt during whatever happened when we appeared here.
"Are you alright?" He asked me.
"Yeah. Tom and I are fine. What happened? Where have you been? Where's the…" I stopped myself from saying TARDIS. I knew that it'd lead to questioning, but the Doctor seemed to know what I mean.
"She's back at the school. I don't remember what happened, but when I woke up I was on a giant mountain. It was freezing up there. So, naturally, I climbed down and found this little place. Knocked on a door and asked if I could stay there. That was about it, and that was about a week ago. Brom told me they found you about the same day I found myself in the 'Spine' as they call it," He explained.
"He's a fool to be anywhere near the Spine," growled a voice behind us.
"Get out of here, Sloan," Eragon said rolling his eyes.
"Those stones you got are no good, boy. That's why I refused to take them! The Spine is cursed," the man named Sloan yelled.
Brom eventually got Sloan to leave after much persuasion and a bribe. I was glad, Sloan didn't seem too happy to see someone that just appeared in this Spine place.
"What stones was he talking about, Eragon, if you don't mind me asking? What are they? What have they done?" I asked curiously.
Eragon shrugged and told me about a blue and green stone he'd found in the mountains while hunting. He thought the green one was kind of dull, and, for some reason, offered it to me.
"Sure," I said with a shrug. "I like colorful stones. I have quite a collection that I've found at rivers."
I thought nothing of the stone when I set it in the spare bedroom I'd be staying in. Tom was staying with a man named Horst and the Doctor with Brom. I fell asleep having vivid dreams of wild adventures with no particular end.
