/A.N./ This is at the end of the movie, when Michael asks Mia, "Why me?" . I always thought she should be asking that, not him, after all that she put him through.

Michael Moscovitz made his way through the crowd at the Genovian Consulate. He was glad he came to the Independence Day Ball, albeit late, but he'd made it. Truth be known, he wasn't even going to come at all. A last minute apology from Mia made him realize why he had loved her for all these years. Even if she had ditched him for pretty boy, Josh Bryant. He saw Mia scanning the crowd for him and when their eyes met, her face lit up. She looked absoulutely gorgeous. He squeezed past Lily, lightly tickling her side.

"Bow." Mia mouthed, reminding him of the proper gesture before the official Genovian dance.

They shared a short dance before Michael pulled her out on the balcony for some time alone. He had so much to ask her. He'd rehearsed a speech on his way to the consulate. But now, as he stared into her deep brown eyes, he lost all words. How could it be that an angel stood before him? What did he do to deserve her affection?

"Why me?" He asked, deep in thought. He didn't even realize he'd said the words out loud until he saw the tears glistening in her eyes.

"You stole my words." Mia said, "I should be asking you that, Michael. You saw me when I was invisible and I was too blind to see it. I've loved you since I first met you. As for the other stuff-"

"Josh Bryant?" Michael questioned, interrupting her.

"Yeah. I uh, I claim temporary insanity."

They both smiled. Michael wrapped an arm around her waist. With his free hand, he wiped away her stray tears and moved in closer. His soft lips pressed against hers, and enveloped them in a gentle kiss.

Mia's head felt dizzy. She felt her foot popping up behind her. Then, out of the corner of her eye, Mia saw the garden lights coming on. So, instead of seeing fireworks, she saw garden lights.

'Same difference.' Mia thought as they pulled apart. 'Not a bad first kiss.'

"Wow." Mia breathed as she put her hand to her lips.

"Princess," Michael said, "You stole my words."

~The End~

/A.N./ This is short, I know, just a one-shot fic. :D I've got a longer book-based chapter fic in the works.
