Deeta Tarrant, and Aussieflugel both wondered what the Torchwood team would spend their lottery winnings on. Here's my take on it. Thanks for the idea, guys. Before you read this, you might want to read "You've Got To Be In It To Win It" first, but if you don't, it won't matter much. Except you'll have missed a little comedy moment
My Share of the Winnings
Owen puts the phone down. His protest that he isn't the kind of guy to do flowers isn't quite true. The first thing he does with his share of the Torchwood syndicate's lottery winnings is to change his order at his favourite Cardiff florists. Instead of the monthly bouquet he sends to Katie's parents, he increases the frequency to weekly. And, no matter the time of year, he insists that they add yellow roses to the seasonal flowers he picks up every Friday and takes to Katie's grave.
Ianto suggests to Jack that they go shopping. Jack protests; he's not keen on shopping. When Ianto tells him what they will be shopping for, he changes his mind. A flat overlooking the water, close to the Hub, sounds perfect. As does Ianto's suggestion that they should live in it together.
Tosh walks away from the bank with a sense of relief. A large part of her salary every month contributes to her family's upkeep in London, where prices are spiraling. She knows that the life expectancy of a Torchwood employee isn't good and she has been concerned about what might become of her family if anything happens to her. She walks away from the bank knowing that the trust fund she has set up will ensure that they can all live comfortably, no matter what happens to her in the future.
Gwen shrieks "Make that a LARGE house!". "With a pool and outdoor hot tub," adds Rhys. "And a paddock so that Ellen can have a pony," says Gwen. "Who's Ellen?" asks Rhys. "Your daughter, silly." says Gwen, kissing him on the nose. "She's Gethen's big sister."
Jack donates his winnings anonymously to a variety of charities. He has no need of more money. He is immortal. Money is transient. For the moment he has a greater treasure than money can buy; he has Ianto. That too is only transient, and he knows that it also will pass, as everything does. But no amount of money can make it permanent, so Jack donates his money, grateful simply for what he has at the moment.
