He swung the boomerang fiercely, slicing neatly through the frosty air. Practiced warcries escaped his lips as he twirled and hacked down invisible enemies.
"Hey Sokka whatcha doin'?"
With a high pitched wail of fear, Sokka swirled around, his boomerang soaring neatly into the sky as he slipped on compact snow, falling painfully on his rear.
Piercing, girlish laughter punctured his ears as Sokka grit his teeth.
"Playing warrior," He answered sharply with a set scowl.
"For a warrior," His little sister began cheekily "You sure get scared easy,"
"I wasn't scared!" Sokka spat venomously as his boomerang swished back from the sky knocking him hard on the head, "OW!"
A small giggle escaped Katara's lips before her young face took on a look of concern.
"You okay?"
Sokka's glare was deadly.
He ignored her, rubbing his head firmly with the palm of his hand. Getting up, he grabbed his boomerang and began swishing with more force, nearly loosing his balance at each fierce, uncontrolled swing.
Katara's lower lip jutted out at being ignored. Though quickly vanished as she watched her brother.
"Can I play warrior with you?"
"No," He grunted curtly.
Katara's eyebrows knitted in petulant anger.
"Why not?" She demanded with a stomp of her foot.
"'Cause you're annoying," He sliced the air, "Too small," He grunted, swinging the boomerang harder, "And you're a girl,"
Katara's large eyes smoldered, brows tugged down fiercely, her teeth grinding.
With a roar she lifted her small arms and charged at her scrawny brother tackling the boy to the ground.
"Hey!" Sokka whined, hitting the snow with an "Oof!" as the two rolled finally landing feet from each other Katara's young, round face livid.
"You jerk! Meanie! Creatin!" With each word she thrust her small arms at him, though instead of hitting him, somehow the snow was summoned to her hand and turned to ice cold water that she splashed in his face, "You- never- let- me- play,"
Sokka was sputtering, incoherent whines escaping his pudgy mouth.
"Katara!" The freezing water stung him, his hair, head and snow jacket soaked as it quickly began to turn to frost. "Stop it! Stop it!" He made futile attempts to block her weak globules of water, "I'm telling Gran!"
Katara stopped, the small ball of water falling from her hand with a splash.
"Sokka," Her once angry eyes were filled with fear.
Sokka tried to look smug through his chattering teeth, and blue lips. The small Watertribe boy clumsily scrambled to his feet in the snow.
Katara jumped up as though on fire.
"I'm telling Gran you wouldn't let me play!" She scambled past him, pushing him down as she ran through the thick snow.
Sokka grabbed his boomerang and bolted after her.
"I'm telling Gran you're annoying and interrupting my training!"
"I'm telling Gran you're a meanie and a scardy-cat!"
They were neck and neck, their breath coming in huffs as the small siblings ran.
"I'm telling Gran you pushed me! And got your freaky magic water on me!" Sokka shouted.
"It's not FREAKY!" Katara shrieked, tackling her brother, and once more they were rolling in the snow just outside their grandmas home.
"Jerk!"
"Brat!"
"Meanie!"
Kana came up to the wrestling brother and sister with a strait emotionless face, calmly grabbing each of their ears.
"Ow, ow, ow, ow…" Sokka and Katara whimpered simultaneously, as they were pulled to their feet.
Faces flushed, covered in snow they began shouting at the same time.
"Gran he said!—"
"Katara pushed!—"
Kana tugged their ears, the two cried out and were silent.
"Come now," Kana spoke in a tireless voice that booked no argument, "Time for chores…"
