A/N: This fic is just an experiment, as I've never written well in first person. So, let me know what you think. If you like it, I'll write another chapter, which may also be in first person, so let me know if my writing is ok.

I've never viewed myself as the "marrying type." Yes, I've thought about it but how often do you really expect to be in a fairy-tale? This was no fairy-tale. You could imagine my surprise when he asked me.

He knelt down on one knee. I've never seen him that serious. When Alexis was abducted, he was distraught, not serious. But this, this was serious. Sometimes I needed that from him; I needed him to be mature. I was brought back to reality when it actually occurred to me that he was proposing.

Rick Castle was asking me to marry him.

He was asking me to spend my life with him. I couldn't quite grasp that concept, so did he realise what he was doing? I had just been offered a new job opportunity, in Washington D.C. Had he even considered what this would mean for both his life and mine? Or was he just being impulsive? I wouldn't put it past him.

What about Alexis and Martha? Could he actually consider uprooting his entire life, for me? Would he consider raising a family with me? Having more children?

Maybe he would expect me to stay in New York with him if we did marry.

I had thought about this and a few other things in what seemed like minutes to hours, but were really only a few seconds. I could see he was waiting for my response, so I stood up hoping he would do the same. He did.

Finally, I opened my mouth to speak.

"Why?" I asked.

He stared at me in confusion.

"Why now Rick? Why do you want to get engaged?"
