Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter
"What am I going to wear? What am I going to wear? WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR?" Lily shouts to her best friends, Alice and Marlene.
"Cool your cauldrons, Lily. James has been following you like a lovesick puppy since fourth year. Showing up will be enough for him," Marlene told her.
"But what if it isn't? What if he takes one look at me and goes, 'Well that was a waste of three and a half years I could have used to date other people,'?"
"He won't Lily. Don't have a hippogriff over this," Alice said sternly. Lily sighed. She knew she was being perhaps the tiniest bit silly, like smaller than Sirius's brain silly, but she couldn't help it. She wanted to look good, and dammit, she would do it if it killed her! Eventually, she just wore a simple pair of jeans and a green tank top. Alice and Marlene assured her she looked lovely. She walked into the common room, and James was already there, pacing and looking nervous. He eventually noticed her and staring.
"I can't believe you actually came," he said.
"You thought it was a prank? That's more your style, Potter ,"
"Now that we're actually going on a date, would it kill you to call me James?"
"Probably not, but why take the chance?"
He gave her a look.
"Fine, I guess I could call you James," she said, semi-sarcastically.
"So, should we get going? He said.
"Sure."
There was a bit of awkward chatting before they reached Hogsmeade.
"So, where do you want to go first?" James asked.
"Let's go to Honeydukes. I've been meaning to stock up on sugar quills."
It turned out they bought a lot more than just sugar quills. They bought enough candy to last them for a month, if Sirius didn't get to it first. James managed to get Lily to visit Zonko's, and ever to buy a bottle of hair colour changing shampoo. They made their way to the Three Broomsticks, and were sitting in a cozy little booth, telling each other about their life before Hogwarts over some butterbeer. As she was doing her 'Vernon-the-whale' imitation, james laughed so hard he snorted butterbeer out of his nose. Lily took one look at him and started laughing, too.
"Very attractive, James," she teased.
"We both know that you've seen me looking much worse than this, remember the pudding incident back in fifth year?"
"Oh, god, don't remind me!"
Eventually, they walked back to Hogwarts.
"So… its been great, thanks James," Lily said, smiling.
"Yeah,"
"So…"
"Lily?"
"Yes?
"Do you want to do this again sometime?"
"Definitely,"
They both skipped back to their dormitories with huge, goofy grins and told their friends the fantastic news.
