It was Connor's birthday and Abby had been traipsing round the shops all week trying to find the perfect present - between chasing prehistoric monkeys round an indoor play centre.
In the end she had settled on a CD of some obscure band he liked and a special addition DVD of his favourite horror film (which she'd probably regret later). It wasn't what she'd wanted to get though, they'd been going out - somewhat secretively for two months now and Abby wanted to buy him something personal, something just between them.
Connor had been all smiles when he'd opened the gifts and had thanked her profusely for making his favourite meal, which wasn't hard considering his favourite food was pizza.
"Are you sure you like your presents Connor?" She asked for the third time as they ate their meal in front of the T.V.
"Yeah, of course Abbs! I'd like anything you bought me, I told you that."
"I know." She sighed. "It's just. . . I wanted to get you something more. . . personal."
He put his slice of pizza down on his plate and gave her his full attention, looking into her bright blue eyes.
"More personal? Like what?"
He looked genuinely confused as he took a swig from his can of beer.
"Something special, that would show you how much I love you."
Connor coughed and spluttered, causing beer to spray all down the front of his t-shirt.
"Easy Con, don't want you choking on your birthday." Abby snorted.
After regaining control of his breathing and wiping his face, he gripped her shoulders and leaned in to kiss her softly.
"Abby" He breathed as he pulled away slightly. "You just gave me the best birthday present ever,"
He had a huge grin on his face and now it was Abby's turn to look confused.
"You love me." He stated.
"What?"
"You said you love me." He explained.
"I did?" She looked up at him through her lashes and she could feel her cheeks burning.
"You've never said that before."
"I haven't?"
Connor shook his head slowly and his smile faded slightly.
"You did mean it?"
Abby tried to move her mouth, but it wasn't cooperating so she just nodded.
"I did." She finally managed. "I thought I'd told you before, when we first got together."
"No." Connor shook his head again, "You told me you cared about me, but not that."
"Oh."
"you love me? You really love me?"
He looked so happy Abby thought he might burst into song, and then she laughed at the image that thought brought to her mind.
"Yes Connor I think we've established that."
"I love you too."
"I know you do, you told me before and I'm sorry that I haven't told you, I should have it's just that I'm not very good with this kind of thing."
He leaned in and kissed her again, this time it lasted longer and stirred up a familiar longing in them both.
"I think you're better at it than you think." He sighed as she nibbled the sweet spot on his neck.
Abby kissed a trail up his throat, along his jaw and stopped just short of his lips.
"I love you Connor." She said softly as their eyes locked.
Connor leaned his forehead against Abby's for a moment and sighed contentedly.
"What are your opinions on eating cold pizza?" He asked.
She let out a small chuckle.
"I think that hot food is extremely overrated." She exclaimed.
Waggling her eyebrows suggestively, she climbed onto his lap and kissed him passionately.
"Hmmm . . . I totally . . . agree." He added between kisses.
