The Meeting of Two Foes
CHORUS: Two souls pulled to the sky
both with sins upon their heads
to the heavens they could not fly
It was in limbo they made their beds. (Exit)
(Enter Mercutio)
MER: This looks not like heaven nor hell. Where hath the angels dropped me?
(Enter Tybalt)
TYB: In the in-between lands, so it would seem. Though why I cannot tell you.
MER: (aside) I see fate has a sense of humor to place me with the King of Cats.
(To Tybalt) It seems that enemies shall rest together then.
TYB: So IÕve heard.
MER: Heard?
TYB: Your dear friend, the villain Romeo, and my dearest cousin Juliet lie together.
They who are supposed enemies. MER: So it was not Rosaline he spoke of but Juliet.
He is a fool.TYB: On that at least we agree. It was a grave mistake that shall lead to their graves.
MER: That it shall. This bittersweet romance shall end gravely.
But let us talk of things we can affect and allow the lovers to meet us later.
TYB: Yes, the question of eternity. Do we spend it exchanging compliments or blows?
MER: A good question. On one hand we would perhaps find peace, but on the other, I was never one for submission.
TYB: Nor I, but perhaps there was enough crossing of swords on earth that are souls should seek peace.
MER: I suppose that would be for the best. Perhaps not friends, but not cutting each others throats either, if such a thing is possible here.
TYB: Agreed. (Shake hands) Ah, look who is being led by Hades past the beastly Kerberos.
MER: Ah, the not so happy couple has finally decided to join us.
Come, let us welcome them. (Both Exit)
CHORUS: More peace made through deathÕs kiss.
Crossed swords led to friendly word.
It was a moment none should miss,
A prolonged sickness finally cured.
