A/N: 5x18 Point of No Return. Really short, but definitely worth it.
Disclaimer: Nope.
Yes
He was going to do it. He was going to say "yes" to Michael. It was the only way, he saw it now, and part of Dean thought if he did this now, then Sam would never have to. He could save most of the world and Sam too. Sam would never have to say "yes" to Lucifer because Lucifer would be dead, and Dean would have been the one to do it. Sort of.
Dean was seconds away from getting on his knees and begging Zachariah to make that promise. To promise him that Lisa and Ben, and Bobby would be okay after the world ended, and to find the devil now, so Sammy would be okay too.
He looked at Sam, who had thankfully stopped coughing up blood, sprawled on the floor looking at Dean like the world was crashing down around him, and Dean had to actually remind himself that the world was ending. And Sam should be scared, because the world was ending.
It just wasn't that type of fear. It wasn't the "we're all gonna die" type of fear. Dean didn't even know if Sam could feel that type of fear anymore. It was the "I don't know what to do now, Dean," fear, because Dean had just told Zachariah "yes." Yes, he'd be Michael's bitch. And Dean wished he couldn't read the helplessness in Sam's eyes. He wished he couldn't see that he was letting Sam down. Not in a disappointed, "my little brother's a demon blood addict," way, but in a "if you can't do this, how can I?" sort of way. Dean would have gone so far to say it was almost, "my big brother, the hero, is broken," way. Dean was letting Sam down. Everything that Dean was in Sam's eyes had disappeared. And if there was one thing Dean swore he'd never do again, it was leave Sam.
Dean looked at Sam and winked, just enough for Sam to see. Sam was only momentarily confused, but then, he smiled.
So screw destiny, he thought as Sam tried to hide his smile, right in the face.
