Monica Geller ran up the stairs in her apartment building, the tears clouding her vision and making it nearly impossible for her to see. She walked up to her apartment and tried her best to calm herself down so that her neighbor across the hall Joey would find her like this. She turned around when she heard someone behind her. It was Joey, and he intently knew she had been crying.
"Oh my god, Monica what's wrong?" he asked while running to her side. "Nothing, just leave me alone." She cried as she tried to make her way into her apartment that she shared with her boyfriend Chandler. But Joey stopped her, determined not to let her by with out a reason for her tears. "No, Monica I know something is wrong, and I'm not going to let you go till you tell me what the hell is going on here!" "You really want to know?" she asked. The tears still streaming down her face. "I just found out that the person I love more then anything in the world, doesn't want to be with me." She said breaking through Joey's grip and entering her apartment. Joey followed after her. "That's crazy Monica, he loves you. You know that. He'd do anything in the world for you." "Yeah, everything but marry me." She fired back at him. Joey stood there shocked. He didn't know if he should tell her what Chandler had been planning all along. He watched as she walked into her room and violently began throwing items of clothing into a suitcase.
"What are you doing?" "I'm going to go to my parent's house for a while, I need some time to think." "About what?" he asked taking the suitcase out of her hand and setting it down next to her bed, along with Monica. He took her by the shoulders and forced her to look at him.
"Monica now listen to me, I'm going to tell you something but you have to promise me that you'll believe me." He said looking into her eyes. Monica looked down not wanting to be bothered by Joey at the moment. She was leaving; she couldn't bare to see Chandler after today. How could she? Knowing that all the time she had spent with him, all the love that they had shared had all been a lie as far as she was concerned.
"Monica promise me you'll believe every word I say, Monica! She looked up and met his gaze suddenly snapped out of her thoughts.
"Joey…did he ever love me?" Joey looked at his friend is shock. "Monica, what are you talking about? You know how crazy he is about you. Of course he loves you." "Then why doesn't he want to marry me?" "Mon, listen to me, he wants to marry you." "No he doesn't, haven't you been listening to everything he's been saying? He hates marriage, he doesn't ever want to get married." "Monica that was just a plan." He blurted out, suddenly ashamed of telling her what Chandler had been planning. "What?" she asked surprised. "Monica he's been planning on asking you to marry him for the last month, he was gonna do it at the restaurant that night but couldn't cause Richard walked in right before he was going to." He finished and looked up and met her eyes. Which were producing a fresh batch of tears. "All this time, he was going to propose?" "Yes, Monica and you have to believe me. He didn't want anyone to tell you cause he wanted to see the look on your face when he asked you." Monica just sat there soaking everything in. She couldn't believe it; she wasn't going to lose him after all. She sat there in silence for a few moments. Then slowly looked up. "Joey… thank you." "What for?" "For keeping me from making the biggest mistake in my life." "Anytime Mon, anytime." She smiled and leaned in and hugged him. And thanked her lucky stars that that she would be with the man that she loved more then anything in world for the rest of her life.
