Treasure On The Ocean Floor
By: Sinnamon Spider

He split the water cleanly with a perfect, measured dive off the deck rail, swimming toward the figure that sank silently to the sea floor. He screwed his eyes up against the sting of the salt water as he cut through the water.

He could make out only a few of her features: dark blonde hair that floated like a cloud around her pale face, dark eyelashes that brushed high cheekbones, full lips that were starting to tinge blue. She was beautiful.

She was also drowning.

He grasped her around her slim waist, bending his knees to push off from the sand, propelling them to the surface. He hauled her above the water, taking in deep, welcome breaths. But her body was dead weight and her waterlogged dress dragged them back down.

His hands, well-practiced in such things, found the laces at the back of her gown and ripped them open. He pulled the heavy dress off, letting it sink back down to the ocean floor. Towing her through the water, he heaved her onto the pier with the help of one of the befuddled guards. "Not breathing!" the man called, alarmed, as he rolled the girl onto her back. Jack hoisted himself onto the pier. "Move!" he exclaimed, pushing the man aside and drawing his knife. He quickly cut the restricting corset away and the girl came to life, coughing out a great mouthful of water.

"Never would have thought of that!" the guard said admiringly. Jack arched his eyebrows. "Clearly you've never been to Singapore."

He leaned over the girl, making sure she was okay, and met her eyes. They were brown, rich and deep as they stared back at him, taking him in. Her lips were parted as she gasped sweet air. Her hair, darker with water, clung to her smooth cheeks.

Jack Sparrow had found a treasure on the ocean floor.
