"I Wish"
an Inuyasha X Kagome oneshot
A/N: Inuyasha belongs to Rumiko Takahashi, not me. This is my first oneshot so please, no flames.
"Inuyasha! Hey, Inuyasha!" When she got no response, Kagome crossed her arms in aggravation.
{Where in the world did he run off to this time?} she wondered.
"Is something wrong, Kagome?" the Present Day Miko turned to her demon slayer friend.
"Sango, I can't find Inuyasha. Have you seen him?" Sango shook her head.
"No, not since this morning when he and Miroku went to take a walk. They're not back yet?" she asked. Kagome sighed.
"I guess not. I hope they're alright." She said. Sango scoffed.
"Knowing them, Miroku probably stopped to flirt with some girl, and Inuyasha's trying to him at bay to spare the poor girl Miroku's lechery. That, or they probably fell asleep somewhere. I'm sure they'll be back soon." Despite Sango's words, Kagome still did not seem comforted.
"I hope you're right."
A few hours passed, and when the sun began to set, the hanyou and the monk finally returned to the village. And, of course, the usual chaos ensued.
"SIT BOY!"
WHAM!
"What'd you do that for, Kagome?"
"Where were you all this time? Sango and I were worried sick about you two!" Kagome fumed. Inuyasha stood up.
". . . I'm sorry." He mumbled.
"Yeah, well, I- wait, what?" Kagome was taken aback. This was VERY unlike Inuyasha. Sighing, Inuyasha looked out towards the setting sun.
"I said I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you worry. Miroku and I were just talking. We lost track of time." he explained.
"What were you guys talking about for so long?" Kagome asked curiously. Inuyasha blushed slightly.
"uhm...well, I was telling him how I don't want to wish to make a wish to become a full demon anymore." he said. Kagome blinked.
"Well, what DO you want to wish for now?" she asked. Inuyasha turned to face her and gently grabbed hold of her shoulders, pulling her into an embrace. Kagome's face turned bright red.
"I-Inuyasha, what-?"
"I want to wish for the two of us to be able to keep traveling back and forth through our worlds by using the well, so I won't have to say goodbye to you, and you won't have to leave your family. I. . .I love you, Kagome." And with that, Inuyasha pressed his lips to hers in a tender, loving kiss. Kagome was shocked at first, but then, she let her heart take over as tears of gladness and content streamed down her cheeks when she closed her eyes and returned the kiss. When they parted, Inuyasha saw her tears and looked at her worriedly.
"H-hey, what's wrong, Kagome? Why're you crying?" he asked. Kagome laughed slightly.
"I'm crying because I'm happy! I. . .I've loved you for a long time now, but I was always afraid that in the end, you would choose Kikyo over me." Inuyasha held her close and shook his head.
"No, Kagome. I admit I love Kikyo, but as a friend. Or at most, as a sibling. I was too dense to see it before, but since the night we met, my heart has belonged to you. I'll always be there for you, Kagome. You mean the world to me. I know I've caused you a lot of grief in the past, but if you'll have me, wh-when we finally kill Naraku and complete the Shikon Jewel, will you. . .marry me?" Kagome was stunned at first, but then she pecked her fiance-to-be on the lips and snuggled into his chest.
"Of course I will. But, I have to finish school first, too." she said. Inuyasha nodded in understanding and kissed her forehead.
"I know. And I'll wait as long as I have to. Just knowing you'll be mine is enough for me. Hey, Kagome?"
"hmm?" came the soft reply.
"This is the best thing that's ever happened to me." Kagome smiled.
"Me too." she replied softly.
Of course, things weren't going so well for Miroku on the other side of the village...
"LECHEROUS MONK! KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF!"
*SMACK!*
Poor Sango! When Will Miroku ever learn?
