What is Forever
I sat on the train with Ed and Al, my hot pink and blue stripped hair blowing in my face. I tied it back in a short and stubby bun, and turned to Ed and Al, averting my gaze from the window. We were on our way to Xenotime, to check out leads on the red water we had heard so much about.
"Ed?" I asked, his golden eyes meeting mine for the first time in hours.
"Yeah, Melody?" Ed asked.
"What is forever?"
Ed scoffed at my question, and I gave him a dirty look, knowing I wouldn't like his answer. But I waited for the young alchemist to give his response.
"Melody, what kind of question is that? There isn't a such thing as forever. Forever is just a term that means eternally, a span of time that doesn't exist. Nothing lasts forever. As an Alchemist you should know that."
"You are wrong, Ed. Forever isn't a span of time that doesn't exist. Forever is as long and you are willing to make it. Forever is a span of time you can only decide how long it lasts in reality."
"Melody, you make no sense. Forever isn't possible." Alphonse said quietly, knowing I would snap back at him.
"Okay so when people say I will love and cherish you forever, that's a lie because there isn't such a thing as forever?" I snarled at Ed and Al.
"Melody-" Alphonse said, but Ed cut in before he could continue.
"That's different! In love, you say forever meaning until you die." Edward sat back, acting like the stuck up know-it-all he always was.
"so you are admitting, right here and now, that there is a such thing as forever?" I smiled smugly, and saw his face go pale, the grin vanishing form his face. He spluttered, trying to get words straight, becoming more and more flustered and unsuccessful. I threw myself back into the seat and laughed hysterically as Alphonse held Edward back from attacking me, and the two struggling made me laugh harder.
Finally, Al calmed Ed down enough to let him go, and he slumped against the seat. I still had that smug smile plastered across my tiny pale face, and he glared daggers at me, making the grin grow wider.
"Fine! You win! Damn…"
"Yay! My first win against the mighty FullMetal Alchemist! You know, I could get used to this."
"you are just lucky I love you…" he said, moving next to me to hold me tight in his arms. I curled close to his chest.
"I love you. I will always love you… Forever, Edward Elric." I breathed in his scent, sighing in relief to have him this close to me yet again.
"Forever, Melody…"
The train moved through the valley. We still had a few hours till we got to Xenotime, so I tightened my grip on Edward, and drifted into a sweet slumber.
