"What thebleep is that doing here?"

"Shhh, you'll upset her."

"She is upsetting me, Grissom."

"Fine," sighed Grissom as he picked his tarantula up off the break room table.

"It's bad enough she wanders your office," said Catherine, sitting as far away from Grissom and his pet spider as possible.

"Hey, guys," said Greg as he walked in. "What are you up to?"

"Staff meeting starts in ten minutes," grumbled Grissom, peering at his spider as it explored his wrist and fore arm.

"I didn't think you went to staff meetings," said Greg as he poured himself some coffee. "By the way, Grissom, thanks for letting me work days today."

"No problem, Greg. I know you need to catch that plane for your family reunion."

"Yeah," said Greg wistfully. "I wonder who will come out of the closet this year."

With that, Greg turned and exited the room while Grissom tried to look politely confused.

He felt a tickle at his elbow and looked to see his spider trying to make a break for Catherine.

"Not now, Spidle, we have work to do."

Grissom stood and walked to his office, promising to see Catherine in the meeting. As he placed Spidle back in her terrarium, he said quietly, "Tonight we can have dinner together and then watch some Animal Planet."

Spidle looked at him with all eight eyes for a moment before Grissom nodded and turned away to pick up the folder he always carried to look busy. The staff meeting today was mandatory as he had to meet the new days supervisor.

He felt that she was certainly qualified for the job. At least, she was as qualified as Catherine or Sophia. Her solve rate was the highest behind his in the lab, but she never flaunted it and appeared to prefer working alone. Grissom was aware that the supervisor position had been thrusted upon her in much the same way it had been for him.

As Grissom reached the meeting room where Ecklie sat smirking as Catherine played "politic" or "kiss ass", he saw Thayet, the days supervisor leaning back in her chair, starring at something in a small jar. Grissom took his seat beside her and saw that it was a scorpion with about seven babies on her back.

Thayet caught him looking. "She's been in my office for the past couple of weeks. I figured we could share the space, but I saw her this morning like this."

She gestured to the babies and spoke to the scorpion sternly now. "My office is not a daycare, Pokey. I'm going to have to relocate you."

"I'll take her, said Grissom. "Uh, that is, if you would like to get rid of her."

Thayet smiled at Grissom and murmured a thanks as she passed the container to him.

Ecklie cleared his throat and began to talk about how great everything would be now that he was in charge. Grissom tuned him out.

After the meeting was over, Grissom took Pokey and her brood to his office.
