It Was Bound to Happen Someday
"Welcome back, Brother," Josiah greeted the returning Wilmington.
"Are you sure you should've come in this soon?" Nathan scowled. The dark eyes made a quick examination.
"Yeah, I'm sure," Buck grunted and hobbled his way over to his chair. "Got bored laying around the apartment."
Eyes filled with amusement as Wilmington gingerly lowered himself onto the office chair.
"Okay there Buck?" JD smirked at the wince and faint groan from his big brother.
"Laugh it up you jokers," Wilmington snarled.
"This will certainly linger in my thoughts for a considerable time to come." Ezra's eyes danced with laughter and both dimples were revealed.
"If you had stayed where you were suppose to it wouldn't have happened," Chris reminded unsympathetically. "I'm still waiting on that report."
"Shouldn't have let yerself git taken hostage," Vin rebuked the other man calmly.
"I'll admit I was wrong to move out from under cover," Buck mumbled. "Thought I could cut him off before he escaped.
"Damn rookie mistake," Chris fumed.
"Hell, I expected Vin to take care of things before it became a problem," Buck protested. "What happened Junior?"
"Ya got shot."
"Hell I know that, believe me I know I was shot." Buck sucked in a breath as he shifted wrong. "I just don't know how it happened."
"I warned yah time and time again it was gonna happen someday. Yesterday was the day is all," Vin drawled before turning back to the key board.
"How could you know I woulda got taken as a hostage by the worst shot in the world," Buck protested.
"Buck? What do you think happened?" Chris asked in disbelief.
"Jobs shot me," Buck answered in a confused tone.
"Nope."
"What?"
"Vin shot you."
"YOU SHOT ME?" Buck spun to face the high man. A pained almost squeal filled the air at the thoughtless reaction.
"Yep," Vin watched calmly as Buck breathed through the pain.
"It was an accident?" Wilmington asked once he regained control.
"Nope, hit what I'se aimin' at."
"Chris? You let Vin shoot me?" Buck asked in a shock.
"I ordered him to take the shot." Larabee smirked. "Buck, you know you never let a perp take the hostage with them."
"An incapacitated hostage is of no value during a rapid departure," Ezra reminded. "Thus Mr. Tanner . . . incapacitated you."
"Junior, shot me," Buck muttered in disbelief.
"Sure did." Vin grinned over the top of his monitor. "In tha ASS, just like I been tellin' yah I would."
