The hurt in his eyes said everything. She didn't want to break his heart. She didn't want to cause any more pain than she already had. But the damage was already done. There was no turning back now that she had turned her back on him.
"So you lost your trust, and you never should have, you never should have."
She blamed him for what had happened. But part of her knew that it was her own fault. She had trusted Pavel too much, and failed to trust her instincts. And because of her decision, she was almost derezzed. And so was he. She couldn't let that happen.
"But don't break your back, if you ever see this, but don't answer that."
Paige didn't want him to see how much pain it caused her to leave his side. He really was a good program. He was hiding a secret, and she didn't want to get caught in the web of lies.
"In a bullet-proof vest, with the windows all closed, I'll be doing my best, I'll see you soon, in a telescope lens, and when all you want is friends, I'll see you soon."
The last thing she wanted was for Tesler or Clu to catch him. She already knew that she would defend him if she needed to. But for now she would have to keep her distance and play it cool. They couldn't find out the truth behind who wore that mask.

And she would defend him with her life if she had to. Because he had saved her life more than once. It was a debt that she owed him. Nothing more and nothing less. But part of her truly loved him for what he did. Which was why she would see him soon.
