Dear Godmother,

I don't quite believe in you. However, it is required of all princesses in this kingdom that when she turns sixteen, she must write a letter to her fairy godmother. It is a ritual that has been passed down through generations, and it is old enough not to have much meaning to it anymore. Now, I believe it is done in hopes that each princess will then easily meet her own happily ever after (and lessen the burden on her parents to help them find their Prince.)

We are all told to ask for something from you. My three older sisters asked for a true love. It's a wise thing to ask for, I suppose, since there can be no greater blessing than loving a man who loves you back. But I don't quite believe in true love, just like I don't quite believe in you. True love is perfect, and perfection is not real.

So from you I ask for this: Show me the imperfect beauty of a true love. An imperfect love that will, though a stain it may be on the untarnished wall of my sisters' perfect husbands, make me believe that true love is real. That it can exist.

Make me believe in it.

Yours Truly,

A.
