- Summer -
Summer… it was something I used to dread when I was younger. So unproductive! I'd rather spend my time with books, deadlines, studying, and constant focus. Summer was just plain boring. There were no responsibilities to keep my working determination alive. The heat of the sun didn't help much either. It always ended up being a time where I'd just lie out for hours in my little room, next to the constant buzzing of an electric fan and a plate filled with watermelon seeds.
This all changed after I entered high school. There was nothing boring about being a student at Ouran. The people you meet there… they never leave you alone! It seemed as though I was caught in a whirlwind of crazy ideas, idiotic plans that were never fully thought through. There was no rest with those guys, dragging me everywhere from the world's most expensive vacation villas to exploring some random commoner flea market. Their curiosity and want for enjoyment never seemed to be quenched. Because of all this, I came to yearn for the quiet, restful summer days that I used to hate.
But even this was altered once again. Slowly but surely, they all left. The years elapsed, graduations came and passed. They promised that it wouldn't matter, but eventually it did. Being countries apart and rapt in their prestigious university educations, there was never any time when all of us were free to once again pursue some wild adventure together. I took to taking summer school and returned to those volumes of books I used to love. Essays after essays, presentations after presentations, exams after exams, I wholeheartedly devoted myself to fast-tracking my way to a law degree. But somewhere, filed behind important facts and useless dates, there was a tiny, insistent feeling of remorse for the lost of laughter-filled days.
More graduations came and passed. I suppose we were now adults, busy with unwanted responsibilities. I was working hard to make a name for myself and them, they were all working to uphold their families' names. Time became more precious than ever. Their presences occasionally collided with mine, but that's it… only occasionally. Summer was never quite summer anymore.
It was like all of the other seasons, only more hot.
