You watch them sitting at the table, and you wonder why they're here. It's a bar, not a playground, and they aren't old enough to drink. There is one who's pretty tall, but you don't think that he's legal either. The trio comes with adults sometimes, who drink, but it's still uncommon for a group of minors to come into a bar.
Either way, they seem to be a pretty uncommon group. Two boys and a girl, who all seem rather close. You see touches linger on the girl, and some hard glances between the young men, and you wonder exactly what they go through day to day. It must be hard, judging by all of the calluses and scars on the boys' young hands.
The girl is a dainty little thing though, and you wonder if she's ever lifted more than a glass by herself. She looks out of place next to two roughed up boys, and again you wonder if she's there by her own free will. She must be, because she seems more than happy to be snuggled between them around a small fire. They always take those seats, and huddle around the embers, seemingly at ease pressed against one another.
You hear talks of war, and weapons, and once the ocean, but you never get a clear opinion about the three of them. Dainty Princess discusses war and weapons, and the boys discuss oceans. You ask them if you can get them anything, yet again, and they reply with the different drink combinations than last night. Only one of them orders it, usually the older boy, and you wonder how someone could know you that well, to get you something different every night and still you enjoy it.
Dainty Princess knocks over a glass one night (no one said anything about graceful) and offers to stay behind and help you clean up. You learn that her name isn't, in fact, Dainty Princess, but instead Kairi. The boys are Sora and Riku, though you aren't sure who is who, and they're all close friends. You ask what they're doing in a Hollow Bastion bar, and she tells you that they come because it's quiet. Apparently the rest of the town is too noisy for their tastes (a perplexing thing) and so they prefer to take refuge in a toasty bar. None are of the drinking age, of that you were correct, but they probably wouldn't drink anyway, Kairi tells you. She tells you that they're on a mission to protect the worlds from Heartless, and that they used to live next to an ocean. She also tells you about the breeze off of the water and the chirps of the gulls.
She bids you goodnight and you retreat to your shabby apartment above the tavern, dreaming of three friends fighting heartless with callused hands next to an ocean, its breeze full of sweet dew, and the sound of chirping gulls in the background.
