Just In Case

Written for the February Twin Exchange Challenge.

Prompt: Amortentia

Pairing: Cormac/Romilda

Quote: "How am I supposed to explain this?"

Theme: Valentine's Day

Cormac looked longingly across the table, to where his beloved sat. Romilda tossed her glossy hair over one shoulder. As she stared into the cauldron, full of two weeks hard work.

He had to convince her to forget the damned Amortentia and Harry bleeding Potter. They were perfect for each other; she just couldn't see passed Potter to realize that.

"Cormac?" Romilda looked up at him and smiled. "We're done. It's perfect. How are you going to slip it to Granger?"

"Huh? Oh, um…I'm not sure yet. You know," he stood and crossed to her side of the table, "I was thinking…"

"Yes?"

He took a deep breath and reached out to hold her hand. "Maybe we should wait until after Valentine's Day. If those two were to suddenly break it off and be seen with us, well it might damage Potter's reputation. And I know you don't want to harm his career."

"No, you're right, I don't. How did we not see that before? Oh, Cormac, I'm so lucky to have found you!" She threw her arms around the older man and kissed his cheek.

Before her lips landed innocently on his stubbly face, he turned his head quickly so their lips connected. She made a startled noise, but didn't break away from the kiss. He slid his tongue into her mouth, tracing along the cavern. His fingers dipped into her thin hair, sliding it between them.

"No!" She suddenly pushed him away, hands staying on his broad chest. "How am I supposed to explain this to Harry? He'll be so disappointed to know I was unfaithful to him."

"Please, Romilda. You'll never have to use a love potion on me."

"But-"

"Potter will understand," he wildly invented when he saw her resolve cracking. "He'd want you to be happy."

"He does, doesn't he. He's such a generous man." She spaced out, staring into the air.

"Romilda, focus." He shook her gently. "Will you be my Valentine?"

"Yes," she gasped, hugging him tightly. "You know, we make a good team. I bet we could make all sorts of complex potions together…like polyjuice." She thought back to the time she had yanked out a few strands of Harry's hair, she kept it in her jewelry box, just in case.

The End.
