True To His Heart

A/N I read the news about the plot for Shrek Goes Fourth last night and I was so excited about it, ideas wouldn't leave my head so I had to write something to do with it. This fic is about Shrek realising he is a true ogre even if he acts differently from others of his kind but realise that he's lucky to have the life he has.

Shrek sighed as the sun rose that morning as he woke up in bed beside Fiona. He felt good having a family but he felt depressed too. Things had changed since he had friends and a wife. He didn't feel like he was still a true ogre.

He went out for a walk before Fiona and the triplets woke up in the forest.

He saw no hunters lurking around which was very odd.

"They never miss a chance to try.

Maybe they finally gave up." he thought but what he thought was true.

The hunters had given up realising he wasn't a threat to the village along with his family but he knew the ogre community wouldn't be amused by this.

He missed the old days when hunters tried to take care of him and he would scare them senseless but he'd a feeling those days were long gone.

Fiona wondered what was wrong with her husband later as she was making breakfast while the triplets were outside playing.

".....Is everything okay with you honey?" she asked him softly.

"I'm fine.

Why wouldn't I be?" he asked faking a smile but she wasn't buying it but let it go for now at least.

"Something is up with him but I don't want to pressure him into telling me if he doesn't want to.

I'm sure he'll tell me when the time is right." she thought as she went to check on the eggs. Snowgre wondered what was up with his cousin especially since he hadn't yelled at him for playing the guitar early in the morning.

"What's up with him?" the ogre teen asked her nervous.

"I'm not so sure Snowg.

Something is really bugging him and he won't tell me but I know somebody who can help us but we have to go to Earth and you're the only one who can open portals at the moment." Fiona replied to him.

Snowgre smiled at her.

His heart leapt excitedly at the chance to go to the mortal world......

Snowgre smiled as the portal dropped them outside a house which belonged to their human friend Leah. They hoped she was in but realised it was the middle of the night.

"Oh yeah I forgot!

The time here is different than in our world.

They're probably asleep." Fiona heard Snowgre say as they used magic to open the door to the Robert's house. Snowgre hoped that their friends would help them with Shrek.

But Fiona heard one of Leah's cats meow scared as they heard footsteps.

"Who's there?" a familar voice asked them.

"Fiona, Snowgre!

What're you doing here?" Carley said happy to see them.

"We need to speak to you and Leah about something important." Snowgre told her.

"Cool but can it wait until morning?

I'm sort of tired and Leah and I have college in the morning.

You guys can sleep in the guest room." the teen replied as she went upstairs.

But somebody was watching them.......
